Has anyone bought from this guy?
My loan horse is going home soon and Blake has offered me a 12 year old ID type gelding before he starts "working" with him. Hacks alone, no bumps, lumps blemishes. I'm keen but wary of dealers...thoughts please???

Blake has a real gift with horses and can anything going sweetly but it depends on whether the horse will go well for you.

I knew a couple of people who have brought cobs from him and had no problems. He is a very strict, traditionialist horseman and they were incredibly well mannered on the ground but a bit dead / shut down to ride.

Friend got a cob from him part x, it had issues getting anything on its head, though Blake didn't hide this and he and his staff could get a bridle on him. It took a while and patience, but he is a wonderful cob now, she wouldn't part with him.

Have had a nice horse from him that was green but exactly as he described. I would say if your honest about your abilities he would match you with something suitable. He says things as they are and I found him very straight and not full of himself.

following this thread i looked at his page on facebook, he has posted a video ranting about the dodgy dealers site which i watched. he said something interesting about the way cobs move, they are not lame they just move like that.....as he says people should get them vetted , so even if a horse is really cheap it would be worth getting it vetted IMO ....i then watched loads of videos on his site and found them very interesting.....worth looking if you havent already

his pretty much always look lame because his school seem massively deep and hard work. I presume they likely look much better on a better surface.
That said I’ve watched enough over the years that he wouldn’t be on my list to buy from.

Watching the videos it depends what you want - every horse he has schooled seems to be afraid of a contact - is he turning out ‘western style horses’ ? Him running a horse round in 4 m circles round a tire on the 4th ride seems a little hard on its legs etc but it looks like they are probably safe but not trained in a classically English style so depends what you are looking for and what your experience is - if you are looking for a safe happy hacker you’ll probably be fine if you are looking for an all rounder I would guess that they are very green

Local riding school had a couple of cobs off him which were as described. He did take a horse off them in px who I later saw on his FB page going sweetly - although he didn't mention the thickened tendon I knew she had (although you wouldn't in a sales video I guess).

If you like the horse to ride then get it vetted.
