As I am still out of action with my stupid ankle my wonderful hubby has been hacking Hovis out for me and took him SJ-ing on saturday.
He hasn't competed in a while (as Pride was a bit too loony for hubby to dare taking him) and hasn't jumped Hovis in ages. Hovis got totally over excited and took three rounds of jumping to stop pulling his dads arms out. It was 20+ degrees and jumping on grass over a big (as in the distance between jumps not the size jumps) course.
Then monday night hubby agreed to take Hovis for a longish hack on his own crossing two train lines. I drove out to the first crossing in case Hovis was silly (to give him a lead if necessary) and then doubled back to the second to be there just in case. The first one was fine - no drama. The second one the barriers came down just as they were arriving.......then as they were stood waiting two big trains came through, two tractors, a bus and three bikes arrived behind them and then a crop sprayer started spraying onto the road. Bless hubby it was a handy horse test all at once. I would have wet myself but hubby was a total star. Admittedly I don't know who was the most wet with sweat by the tinme they got back - him or Hovis!
Just so want to find a lovely big weight carrying SJ-er for hubby. He deserves a lovely horse who isn't mentally tapped!
So a post for amazing OHs. I have an amazing one - how about you?

Thats fantastic, I always read Hovis's Friday diary and he sounds like a super star as is your hubby. My hubby is also a super star, not on the same level as your's, we don't do show jumping or cross country or anything just happy hackers, but it is really nice when you both like the same hobby. Applause for all the good hubbies. Hope you recover quickly.

I have a fab OH too. He is not horsey but does his very best to help me out as much as possible.

He normally takes a turn at checking/fly spray/suntan lotion during the week if I'm later home from work. He brings her in from the farrier if I'm stuck for getting the day off.

He has learned to change rugs and is happy to help me out with things like that in the winter.
he isn't horsey in the slightest but is learning!! He has no interested in learning to ride (which I'm actually glad about, I like some time to myself!)

When we had to put her on loan due to financial probs, I was distraught and he always put up with me and said our number one moeny priority would be to get Rosie back.

he puts up with a lot of horsey nonsense form me!!! But then maybe he just puts up cos he knows I'd always pick her??? lol!!

Well done to all the good hubbies/OH's out there.

My very non-horsey hubby has come on leaps and bounds since I got my first horse in November. He can do everything necessary now, except ride. Through the winter he used to muck out every day so that I could spend my time after work riding - how great is that?

He's always there for farrier, vet, dentist etc if I am at work - never moans.

Oh, and he cooks tea for me and the kids, so that I can dash in, eat and dash out to ride - p'raps he has a bit on the side? :)

Big cheer!!
My OH is horsey, so we share our boy, so when one is riding, the other mucks out etc, it works really well. The only problem is, in 8 years together we have only managed to ride out together once! It would be nice to go for a hack together, but we are only at a small yard and it is difficult to borrow another horse :(.

My OH is pretty brilliant too. He learnt to ride so that he didn't have to run with the hunt to spend time with me, but then decided he's more bothered about the hunting! my sister lends her horse to him while shes at uni, but Tom doesn't hunt so OH has to beg borrow or steal. But this season coming he has been asked to hunt a 4yo for the fieldmaster...

the FM is an old fashioned but very good horseman, so OH feels quite honoured to have been asked given he's only been riding 3 years!

Not my hubby (well not yet anyway), but my OH poo picked the whole field yesterday while I rode my two horses. I just mentioned, I would only be able to ride 1 last night as needed to poo pick ;) & Well La he turns up & takes poo picking over, makes the feeds & fly repellants the other to, before going home & starting tea! Yes most definately keeping hold of this one :)

My OH is now horsey and has his own horse so we get to spend time together doing all the usual chores and riding together.

Because I work late sometimes he just gets on with the chores for me and I arrive to say hello to my guy and all the work is done.

Because I am a woose and don't like pulling the trailer he always takes us out and about when we need to go somewhere

So ig cheer for those fnatatic OH's whther horsey or non horsey who help us poor damsels out.

PS. have yout hought of looking for shire or clyde cross for OH.

My husband is horsey and it's great we have a hobby to share together! :D Wouldn't have it any other way, no moaning about how much things are costing, like feed, shoes, hay etc etc....we just get on with it! (my ex was a miserable sod, hence being the ex!)

Here's to horsey OH's!

I also have a fab hubby. About a month ago I was looking for a new horsebox but the ones I viewed wasnt all that. Anyway on the next Saturday morning, me and the kids went out shopping, on our return there was this FANTASIC lorry parked in our driveway!! Hubby had got it for us from someone he knew. :D:D:D

Well if star OH only wanted to do 2'6 - 2'9 I would lend him Farra - she is a true jumping machine, but unlike Mr H does not get strong and really she would be excellent at teaching folks to jump as she does it by herself.

Bless her, this weekend the jumps were up and she went into school and popped one and then proceed to go round jumping each time as my niece loose schooled them for me. Stinky chose to run round, but Farra lined up and took them like a pro.

Think you need to find a Clydesdale X TB for OH - fantastic jumpers and hunters and normally very sane.

Check these out

http://www.clydesdalehorses.co.uk/

The breeders have a very good reputation and Kate is very well known in Clydesdale Society circles.

Thanks Theresa - i will have a look at these guys. Any idea what kind fo price range they are looking for as there are no prices on the website?
I think a cylde x TB would be ideal but try finding them?!!
A challenge therefore for anyone - find me a +16HH (ideally closer to 17HH) clyde x TB for hubby! PLEASE!

Also what about a ID x TB , thats what I got when Hubby wanted to share the ride. Mac 17hh and carried hubby easily and was very well behaved although a might squealy when he realised he was going to be allowed to jump. He was supposed to be my dressage school master really.

Omar was a pure ID and I have to say put me off. I know you can't judge a breed by one horse but he was a stubborn, pigheaded gitbags. That said if we could find one with enough bone and the right attitude we could be persuaded!

My OH (non-horsey) has his moments :p I was staying with him at the weekend, and I was loaded with the cold. He went to work on Monday morning, I got up to find a mug with a sachet of chicken cup-a-soup in it sitting on the kitchen worktop :D aaw ...

Your hubby sounds fab. Mine is a star too and poo picks most days, will muck out if I'm busy and generally do whatever he can to help. He gave up riding years ago but has started again recently now our Highland is able to hack out.
Don't let Omar put you off IDs. Please do give them another chance. My old girl is a darling (retired now) and I'd have another in an instant if I was younger and fitter. I keep noticing lovely ones on sale sites and going misty eyed....

Mine has been brilliant - when my horse is stabled through the winter he goes every morning to let him out, either on his way to work or on his days off - he knows Arthur likes to be first out so makes sure he is there early - he did this every single day last winter bless him.
He mucks out for me, has learnt to groom him and do his feet - he is even starting riding lessons next week so he can help exercise him !!!

Mine sat on a horse once, got off pretty sharpish and declared that he'd stick to sailing!

Still, he does all the heavy maintenance around the farm, because he doesn't trust me not to maim his tractor mainly, quite happily cuts and stacks hay, and although he isn't keen, he'll hold mares when Zeus is covering in hand. :)

I had a horsey partner once (jockey) lived, and worked with him, we rowed all the time! Think I prefer a non horsey one.

Your hubby sounds fab... 3 cheers to wonderful hubbys.

My OH only manages to come down to the stables at weekends but he mucks out and does a poop pick which allows me to just to play with the horses.
