I'm sorry not to have posted (there is nothing new to tell you to be honest) but I've been popping in here to read your lovely replies. Rosie is definitely no worse and Ifield has told you all there is really to say about her condition and what is happening. They are not prepared to risk letting her come round and breathe properly for herself until they've sorted out the muck in her lungs which they they think has mainly been caused by internal bruising around the chest area. The physios have been working to disperse it and they clear it out at regular intervals through a tube. She has started coughing occasionally which I take to be a good sign as that is a necessary part of clearing it. The other good thing is that although she's being helped with her breathing, she is doing some of the work herself. One of the amazing array of machines which surround her measures the extent of this and it was only 6 yesterday but is 10/11 today and apparently the higher the better. I don't begin to understand it but I'm happy to believe them.

I saw her for the first time yesterday and she is unmarked and looks very beautiful, comfortable and peaceful but it still made me cry. I have so much admiration for her Mum, Dad, brother and friends (including Ifield) who are being amazing and we're all supporting each other as best we can. We have more or less taken over the NCCU visitors room at Addenbrookes and do quite a good job of cheering each other up. Most of the press reports add enormously to our entertainment - particularly that her ambition is to compete at the Olympics alongside Zara Phillips, she's actually always wanted to do Badminton/Burleigh (possibly not so hard to compete there, but more of a rider/horse challenge). The Times report is the most accurate apart from them saying William was there when it happened as he was at school.
She's not out of the woods yet but I'm very sure that day will come but it's going to be a long, slow road.

We are all encouraged by your prayers and positive thoughts. Her Mum managed to leave the hospital last night for the first time and go home for the night because Rosie was sedated and they promised she wouldn't wake up while she was away so she logged on and read your messages - she was touched and cheered by them. Many many thanks.

Please try not to worry too much if I don't post, i just find it hard sometimes xxx

Hello Rosiefan

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this update. I really understand that it can't be easy, and we are all obviously anxious as you are that things are going in the right direction.

Sounds like things are going well, and that she has improved with her function results.

It is humbling that so many people are thinking and praying for her as I am, and I really do hope that she makes a full recovery. She surely has enough of us behing her and rooting for her.

Thanks again for the update, and hope you and your family can get some rest as you'll need it!

Thanks for taking the time to post. So many people are following Rosie's progress & the updates are really appreciated.
I so hope that she continues to improve.
My thoughts are with you all.

Thank you so much for the update. SO pleased that there is some improvement and the doctors are more confident about her. Will keep the prayers going, along with crossed fingers and toes (and eyes and legs if that helps too). We're all rooting for her.

Easier said than done but make sure you, and all her family, take care of yourselves too.

xx

Wonderful to have such a forward looking update but we will all understand if they are few and far between; you all have enough to do to keep supporting each other.
All the very best to Rosie and you all.

had to go to bed early last night as I had to get up 4.30am to leave for Oasby.

I shall be thinking of Rosie today and hope that we shall see her in the news again soon for better reasons.

We are all praying here that Rosie improves. I have always thought Rosie is in the league of the best I've seen here in Essex (incl Ben Mahrer, Louise Pavitt). And when she rode Sammy and Billie (the fat cob) I found out she is the most polite and pleasant young rider I have had the privelage to know. That is the one thing none of the press has mentioned, the fact that she has so much talent, but none of the arrogance. I've noted that when Sammy knocked a pole, she would come out and wonder what she did wrong - felt she could have done better. Never heard her grumpy or rude to her parents or to anyone on the show ground, regardless of her placing. Please tell Paul and Karen that we are thinking of them. And our thoughts and prayers go out to you and all her family. Monique, Kia and Brian Reid, Great Wigborough

thank you so much for updating us all, it must be incredibly hard for you at times. glad to hear she is fairly stable and really hope she continues to improve. my thoughts as always are with you all at this time. xxx

Thank you for updating us. I completely understand that you might not feel like it at times. Hopefully everybody is keeping as positive as possible. Rosie is still very much in my thoughts.
I too (even though I don't know Rosie) have been bemused by the press coverage, obviously accuracy takes second place to 'dramatic' accounts!

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to post an update, she sounds to be improving which is really good news.
I'm not surprised you cried, it must be dreadful to see her so quiet compared with normal.
I'm still sending you strength and good wishes as well as Rosie, though you sound a caring family who are all helping each other get through this awful time.
Just let us know updates when you feel able to, and we'll all keep wishing her those famous H and H get well vibes!

Your post took me back to this time last year when we were in a similar situation with mum. It is overwhelming with all the monitors and tubes and wondering when she will open her eyes. Everything you have said re her treatment is similar to what we went through with mum so it sounds quite normal.

The hospital keep the patient sedated so the body can heal more easily. It is just hard for the relatives. I think with mum it was two weeks before they brought her round and that was to check pain and reflexes. Then she was sedated again. So dont worry it is quite normal and they know what they are doing.

We also found the relatives room in ICU to be very friendly and supportive.

So it does sound positive to me! Every day from now on is another day towards recovery.
