Hey guys,

My horse is really nervous... after getting to know him for the last 6mths I've uncovered a real nervousness with things in his blind spot. He really worries about what he can't see. At the yard he's ok but in the big wide world things like a banging gate right behind him, a car honking up his bum, a bucket being dropped on the road etc etc will cause him to shoot forward. He literally panics and takes over and it takes a couple of seconds for me to get him stop and be back in control. How can I stop this? I keep walking him out in hand with my mum progressively making noises behind us but I have no idea what else I can do. He's on Relax me calmer.

Thx

I think you need to persist with your approach. Do these noises make you jump? If so does he react to your reaction?
I walked alongside a novice friend hacking my bombproof horse in company on Sunday and was very surprised when the horse jumped at a noise behind her. I put it down to the rider's reaction.
