I have a 35 yr old pony diagnosed with cushings this week , only clinical sign was weight loss and an almost overnight sight reduction to the point where the pony couldn’t navigate from field to stable unless being led even in the daylight .. she’s bumping into things and looks for feed bucket like a sniffer dog ..vet has been in my opinion uninformative when I’ve asked about how the drug prascend would deal with the sight issue.. I’m on the fence about starting it especially with the other health issues she already has ( heart murmur, minimal teeth , spinal arthritis which she is medicated for ) anyone have experience with the sight issue .. I don’t know if it’s fair to have her continue with all she has going on if her sight will be another issue for her too..thanks for reading 😢

Very sorry for your old mare, her life isn’t much fun at all.
I don’t think there is any way Prascend can restore lost vision, that’s not what it does. Perhaps time to do her a final kindness? Best wishes to you both.

So sad, We had a pony pts purely because he had lost much of his sight. He was only about 8 but was doing as you described, looking for his food like a dog sniffing and bumping into stuff. I decided at the time that alone was enough. I can't imagine a blind horse can be happy. So I'd totally 100% agree with your decision and think it was the kindest thing you could have done.

Hope you are ok x

I am sorry - but definitely the right decision IMO. There was no quality of life left. At least for the pony everything happened really quickly, but you must be feeling rather spun by the speed of it all - no processing or preparation time. Take care of yourself now.
