Bling - is it a show jumper thing, a dressage thing, or both?

Splotchy look in the January sales - I got a lovely Passier bridle with a bling browband for £60 instead of £280 last year!

We are bling-free for dressage cos I always thought my big tank of a cob would look a leetle foolish.

However, I fell in love with a V shaped browband with a line of black bling on it the other week.

It was on another black horse with a white blaze and it showed up beeeeeeauuuutifooly - without being tacky (I think

) so I am now seeking one out.

That said, my friend insists on a bling browbanf for her coloured dressage superstar and she will ride my mare out in a pink diamonte browband......

What a long way of saying - Go For It!

I think the dressage riders are way more blingy than show jumpers. Show jumpers tend to be "tacky bling" at unaffiliated level and not so bling at higher levels.

Showjumpers are just a bit hideous with Tretorn boots (though I like these, but only on thin legs I am afraid and obviously only in the colous allowed by BSJA), ear covers indoors in the middle of winter, hideous BSJA jackets and GPA hats. There also seems to be an age limit to SJ "bling" - usually the over 25s show more restraint!

Dressage people are properly blingy, however, but more in a middle-aged, ladies who lunch sort of way - diamante everywhere, pearl earrings, silk brocade stocks and stock pins to match the earrings, Roeckl crystal gloves... and don't get me started on patent bridles... Also sheepskin seems to have migrated over to the dressage arena from sj.

Personally I am of course a paragon of restraint and wonderful taste - Maggie has a pearl browband for both dressage and sj, and that's it. (everyone on my yard hates it)

Personally I dislike all forms of bling; plain, smart, well made tack and clothing are what looks best... or maybe that's just The Manual Of Horsemanship being drilled into me from a very young age! I don't mind those browbands with little thingys on them, Lottie came with a sweet SJ bridle with a little brass snaffle on the browband! But diamante...patent...coloured tack...personalised numnahs...flashy clothing... I'd rather spend the money on the horse!

you can never have enough bling.....im an ex SJ'er turned DQ and iv always loved bling.......iv got the patent konigs with matching patent noseband, and the matching otto schumacher browband, belt and stock pin.
iv even got over reach boots with bling on!!!!

Bling is definitely a dressage thing!

I don't particularly like the patent leather bridles or boots but I do have a KB Swarowski browband, with the single line of crystals, which came free with my SLK saddle (might be worth trying to convince your tack shop to give you the browband for free, instead of a discount on the saddle: that's what happened to me).

Albion also do a browband with a single line of black crystals which is absolutely gorgeous -- very understated chic -- but unfortunately it wasn't in stock when I was there.
