Don't know about the rest of you peeps but here in Lincs it was NOT a peaceful night.

Now I don't know whether to take the sodden fly rugs off or leave them to dry on the horses, as I know the horse flies will be out in force the minute it brightens up.

We didn't get one clap or one drop, here. Me and OH were really looking forward to a good storm, too. Still dry as a bone outside. London got it, Brighton got it, Dorking got sweet FA...humph!

Thunder and lightening went on so long after 20 mins I fell asleep again, never seen lightening like it in this country. Dog not impressed with the show though !

Not much sleep here either, in the West Midlands! Even the lightning woke me at one point

I was dithering about rugs, left madam with her sweet itch rug on thinking it would dry out as you say the flies will be out in force when it brightens up, however, we are now having another torrential downpour and very loud thunder! I love a good storm

It started here, at 6.30am. Normally I love watcing and listening to thunderstaorms, but I was having a riding lesson at 7am.
Cancelled, due to extreme weather. Heavy rain, thunder and lightning on top of a Yorkshire hill....... hmmm, I dont think so.

I didn't sleep a wink, but mainly because it was SO hot last night! I've been fine every night since this "heat wave" started, but last night was so humid and sticky!
Then the thunderstorms started at about 6:30 this morning which woke me up from the little amount of sleep I was getting! Pretty impressive storm, but currently have my massively whimpy whippet on my bed crying (whilst his full sister from the same litter is asleep downstairs quite oblivious!).
So glad of the rain, just in time for bringing my horse back into work- vets coming today and touch wood she can start walking out! :D

It started here at 3 am and is still going now. If the thunder wasn't enough to keep us awake, we have four dogs, one of which barked at every clap of thunder, and two others ran round the house scratching on all the bedroom doors.

Only a few sprinkles here in the early hours, but lots of lightning & a bit of thunder, but 3 miles away at the yard there was a bit of a soaking as puddles on the road...... thats NW Surrey for you!
Been bone dry at home since I went to the yard at 05.45 - car had a few spots of water on the roof & screen......

Started here in yorkshire at 11pm and went on until around 4am. Really raining now though!
Feeling v sleepy. Had a few hours sleep but kept waking up from the noise then the heat as power went and fan didnt work :( zzzzz!

Started in Gloucestershire about 11pm and was still going at 6am this morning. Lots of lightening, various amounts of thunder, but only a smattering of rain! I am living in a tent in the garden at the moment so no sleep for me last night

Blimey, I wouldn't want to be in a tent in this. There is more water lying around this morning than there was all winter. You are lucky you didn't get so much or you would have been very soggy in a tent.

I was in Essex (Colchester). I got woken up by thunder about half 3. Was still awake an hour later then managed to drift off. Was still thundering when I got up for work at 6.

Lightning wasn't too bad but the thunder rolls just seemed to last for ages!

Started here in our part of Lincs at about 11 and rumbled on until just before 3 and then the most almighty clap of thunder right over our bedroom it seemed. Poured with rain all night which was desperately needed and still raining hard now. Not much sleep but not complaining, we need the rain for a bit, just not all year!

Took me a while to get to sleep because of the heat, but I didn't wake in the thunder :D Probably helped that I'd been up for 22 hours by that point!

Not a single drop of rain here in Guildford :( And there is still barely a cloud in the sky...The one time i would actually like some rain!!

We have had heavy rain, thunder and lightning this morning! Horrible :( I hate thunderstorms - it's eased off now - still raining but no lightning thankfully :)

Nope none at all.. It started at around 12 quietly and was still going at 4 this morning!

Got no sleep the noise was just so loud I couldn't sleep through it.. Dog didn't care thank god she's pretty good like that.

In Cambs, it was amazing lightning, almost constant at one point, sheet after sheet after sheet, interspersed with massive huge forks of lightning so bright that it burnt my eyes (this was around 3am). Thundercracks with the forked lightning were absolutely deafening. Still going at 8am. Some rain but not a massive amount.

It was one thoroughly impressive thunderstorm. I sat up watching it most of the night.

I am really disappointed, we have had nothing. No much needed rain and no exciting thunder storms. :( I still didn't get much sleep, had to pick my son up at 3.40am as he was coming back from Paris where he has been with his school for the weekend. Was looking forward to sitting up watching the storm while waiting to collect him but nothing.

We got the rain without the thunde and lightening, which actually I feel grateful for. It's nice to have it feeling a bit cooler and fresher after how stifling it was last week. Really hoping that's not the summer over though .....

I couldn't sleep but I'm tired at the moment & seem to have gone past the point of sleeping - tried to stay at my OH house but I hate sleeping there so I don't know why. At 2am I ended up doing the 25 mile drive back to mine, finally fell back asleep about 4.30am. Not sure it was weather related tho, but I did use the awake time to Skype a friend in Australia, lol.
It was lightning at various points whilst I was awake but no thunder & no rain, it has just piddled it down for 5 minutes & now stopped, 1 almighty clap of thunder & that's it, skys pretty grey so I'm guessing we'll have more on it's way. Was weird, everyone on facebook, even within 10 miles of me, was saying about the storm this morning & yet it seemed to bypass us almost completely last night!

We're in S Cambs & had an almighty thunderstorm that went on all night & was still going this morning! My grass is already looking less dead! Girl Rottie barked once or twice at the lightning; older boy Rottie kept crying. I think he thinks that the thunder is some sort of intruder which needs to be seen off the property, & he's upset cos he's not sure how to go about it!

Still overpoweringly hot tho! Hope I sleep well tonight but I don't see how that will be possible if it stays this humid!

Not a great deal of sleep for me either... Woken up at 1.20am by monsoon proportions rain, then through the night by thunder that seemed to shake the house... Only glad my girl is stabled overnight (usually is) though she'd pulled a mat up, so obviously unsettled by the storm :(

I'm feeling short changed, had about 4 drops of rain earlier and that's it! The sky is a bit grey and there is thunder rumbling about in the distance, but the wind is blowing it away. We are meant to be having the rain overnight, so fingers crossed it comes. I'm in coastal Suffolk.

I didn't get any sleep at all! Thunder was epic - at one point there was the biggest thunder clap I think I have ever heard, and it seemed like it was right over my house! I nearly had a cardiac arrest! Went to check on the dogs at 4am, who were a bit unnerved, thankfully settled into their beds after some reassurance from me. Was still raining and thundering this morning when I finally got about an hours sleep.

Horse was freaked out this morning as well. That was some storm, hope we don't get a repeat tonight, I need to sleep!

Thunder, lightning and rain overnight in leatherhead!
