blinkin hoof boots!

So, I bought some second hand hoof boofs for the boy as he's foot sore when I've tried to hack out as is quite stony hacking around here.

Boots arrive today! Horrah!

I thought I'd measured properly, after a trim..etc etc.

Can't even get the blighters any where near on! Ponio is looking at me like I've lost my marbles. Got his leg in the air and tried as I might they wouldn't fit. Ponio said he could have told me that before all this performance!

My friends pony was stood nearby so I thought ooh I wonder if they will fit him......like a glove...blinkin typical...

Anybody else have difficulty getting the right size first time or is it just me that's a thicko!

What boots did you try and what hoof shape does your horse have?
 
I have some cavellos measured and couldnt get them on at first.

I ended up getting them on her but the backs were kind of folded over and squashed down. I left her standing in them for a few mins while I muttered a lot then managed to pull them ( I mean really pull) after a couple of rides including one through water they now fit perfectly and I can fit the pastern wraps on too.

They are supposed to be a snug fit and I have heard stories of people using hammers to get other makes on. They could almost do with a split at the back that velcros up to make them easier to get on. Mine fit perfectly but actually getting them on in the first place the first few times was a nightmare

They are Cavello Simple Boots and he has quite flat round feet. I think i have just completely mis measured!

I can understand they will have to be snug to fit properly so i will just have to be careful not to get too big this time!

I think he will be a size 5. I was thinking about a size 6 but from what webble said i will go for a size 5!

Who did the measuring for you Webble?
 
My flat, round footed tb has the cavallo simples. I measured her up myself. It says to measure from the buttress line but because she has very low heels I measured from a little further back to make sure there's room for her heel bulbs. She's ended up in size 4's and they fit perfectly. Also if your horses hooves are wider than long then you may have fitting issues.

My lad has quite low heels too. I will give it another go! Thanks for the help! :)
 
Remeasure the foot. From heel bulb back of frog to tip of toe, and then side of hoof across frog to other side of hoof. Check your measurement for corect size boot. If you have the correct size check your left and right boot, check all fastenings are open to allow entry.
 
Front hooves are generally round and back hooves are oval, this is because the fronts are more weight bearing. Some types of boots do not cater for the round foot except the Old Macs, again check measurement and check heel depth good idea.
 
The cavallo's are usually quite forgiving if you haven't measured correctly.

The equine fusions are also good, as must softer.
 
Ah thanks for that. Will have a look into others as well as luckily the boots fit my friends pony. She helps me out a lot so going to give them to her as a thank you!
 
I can highly recommend the equine fusions. They are very forgiving and they are flexible and easy to put on and off. I managed to get some good quality seconds for fifty quid. I ride out for hours over lots of diff terrain and they've stayed on and even aft our five hour pub rid the other day they hadn't caused any rubbing and stayed put. Brilliant boots!

Have you got them on the hinds as well and would you say the fit is generous or not? I am looking at these for my boy,s hinds!
 
I don't have them on the hinds I'm afraid. Just the fronts for us. I think because they are flexible they are extremely forgiving. My mare wears her feet quite well so we only get a trim every few months but she did go lame a couple of months ago so she grew a bit of a longer toe to support herself as she was standing under. Obviously the toe has worn a bit but not fully and she still fits well into the boots. Just don't make the mistake I did with them n the beginning. I wondered why they were twisting on each ride when every one had said how good they were. It turned out I was putting them n on a slightly sloped ground so the Velcro wasn't square hence the twisting! As soon as we popped them on on the flat they were fine!
