Horses are great levellers and nothing reminds you of the fact that life goes on more than a 17hh stallion who gets shirty if his 'routine' is altered!

So with Cobham running a two day show we thought we would make use of the venue which is literally 10 minutes up the lane and do two Advanced Mediums. He has promised much but lately I will be honest, he has delivered little! :o

His last outing at Pachesham was very disappointing and we went home a bit fed up and frustrated and there was discussion about DIY castration with scissors etc! We had a re-think about lots of things, including the way in which Mr W channelled his energy. To be honest I think he has been having a laugh with us, he was playing with Mr W and seemed to relish being a nob and dicking about. So Mr W deserted him, when he tried to spook or brace he simply let go, thus Blitz had nothing to fit against!

It takes guts to ride in this way and he has done a good job and it's paying off, Blitz is no longer enjoying the 'game' anymore and has knuckled down and is starting to produce the work in tests he can do at home!

But just to prove he still can he pops the odd duck and dive in like this...

Feel free to moan about the lack of hat... I have told him I already wipe one bum in the family and I won't be wiping his!

Blitz has also taken a real shine to CP and is a little besotted with her... Quite sweet really it's like a little school boy crush but it is totally unrequited on her part, she has only one love... food!

So with Cobham entered we decided to warm-up at home and then load him up and arrive just before his test.

Here are some pics from home, this is my favourite

It was a relatively quiet show but this was about trying to keep him under the thumb and fluent.

He warmed up really nicely for about 5 minutes and then popped into AM 85, it was a lovely test, but... it has long counter canters and Mr W did not do any changes in the warm-up which he now realises it was a mistake. Blitz was a bit shocked when asked for the two changes and so they were muddled and deservedly got 2 3's and the submission marks took a battering! However the rest were 7s a couple of 8's and a couple of 6's. Nice comments and a lesson learned. Second overall with 62.73%

So after a break he went back to the warm-up and really made a point of the changes, making sure they were on the aids and he was in front of the leg. Much better AM92 - 7s for all the changes! :D spattering of 8's and the odd 6 to win overall with a smidge under 65%

It was 2 different judges but these are judges who are firm but fair so you feel you have earned to good marks and deserve the marks you need to improve. All in all it was much, much better in every way possible, fluid and forward so really pleased, now we hope we can capitalise so are planning to campaigning him at AM and Advanced.

I could look at pictures of Blitz all day, he is just gorgeous!!

Lovely to see such a huge amount of power and talent harnessed and enhanced, not fought with and scuppered :)

Stunning pics and glad he's loving cp (maybe an update re: ponies end of the week ;))
Just one question : why is Blitz plaited at home?

Mr W warmed him up at home as Cobham only have a 20 x 40 to warm up in and he can get a bit stuffy if the warm-up is busy. So he worked him at home then Mr W got changed while I packed the car and loaded Blitz. Cobham for us is a 10 minute drive up the road.

Ah, that makes sense - well done on results!

he looks delicious!

as someone else who is chipping away at routine/warm up probs and still trying to get 100% on top of what works best, i feel your pain, and congrats on getting at least part way towards *the best way*......horses=awkward beggars!!!!

Blitz does look rather super, so pleased he's doing well! I love seeing Blitz pictures because he's such a lovely horse and super, but also because he reminds me so much of my big bay boy who I miss!!! :)

OMG this sounds just like my horse to a tee bar the stallion bit!! Who is be by he is stunning. I have to do the exact same thing warm up at home and go in the ring or I may end up on the floor!!

On phone so can't reply individually!

He is very cheeky, and I just love the expression in his eye!

He is a massive person and everyone's favourite! :)

He does indeed! :D

Mr W has had some lessons from a local SJ rider who says he would make a Show Jumper no problem at all.

He likes jumpies! Mr W still likes to keep his eye in so he gets the odd pop now and again.

*hmmm thinks about selling him as SJ if he reverts backwards... ;)
