Blood bank in Bonnybridge

Quick question, does anyone know if E and O labs (blood bank) in Bonnybridge, scotland takes horses on loan with the option of having them back, or do they just buy them?

I am considering them for my mare. I sold a horse to them for £100 several years ago but I cant remember their policy or if things have changed. Too late to call for info and nothing on their website.

yes they taker horses on loan
 
from what i found out a few months ago, they can take them until they reach 15 years and then you can have them back or they are pts.
dont know why as didnt go into it to much as it ended up not being an option for my boy x
 
i loaned mine to them, though in the end she stayed there and died there. she was very happy and well looked after, well fed etc. they dont take horses older than 15, but if they are there before they are 15 they were kept and bled as normal. my mare was in her twenties when she died of natural causes.
 
Called them and they no longer take lame horses. They don't take any on short term loan either. They must be over 16h, between 5 and 15, easy to handle and not lame on hard ground.

They werent interested in my mare so will need to now consider PTS.

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried Milton Keynes. I can't promise you they will be any different with regards to their criteria but you may like to call them just in case. PM me for the phone number.

Hi....felt I had to respond to your post....the horses at the blood bank in Bonnybridge are not pts,they are sent to the knackers. I know it sounds horrifying but it's a common misconception that they are put down and thats it. I'm not speaking from hearsay -- my partner worked there for years :)

I find this shocking. I wonder if they state that to people who leave their horses there at the time, I'm guessing probably not. I think that if it were my horse and he was faced with being pts at either that blood bank or the one in Bucks then I would personally arrange and pay for the vet to attend to pts rather than have my horse go through the stress of an abbatoir. That said I know that abbatoirs are no where near as bad as they used to be and that staff are efficient and professional in their approach to euthanising animals in their care. Thank you for bringing this to peoples attention AO. Of course you would have to be entirely reliant on them to call you to say your horse was going to be pts but maybe when they were reaching the age of 15 you could ring up yourself and arrange this - or am I being totally naive with regards to this?

Weird reply !! Why are you shocked ? I pointed this out to you months ago, you chose not to believe me and insist that blood banks were horsey heaven. You've since suggested it to several people as an option for their lame/unwanted horse. Maybe time to stop that now ?
