Boots was on holiday with a friend last weekend whilst I took the horse to a competition. She mentioned a couple of times he'd had a bit of blood in his poo but had been straining and the big poos were fine. Last night blood again and this morning first poo fine but second poo had blood.

He had had runnier poos but had been eating a lot of horse poo and getting his teeth into the other dogs food, despite friend's best efforts to keep it out of his reach.

He is drinking fine and still hungry, and bouncy just seems a little tired.

I have made an appointment at the vets this morning do not fear but I am worried sick and wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

Mine had some blood in his poo after keener-than-usual straining, not a lot and fresh blood from the colour of it. Vet diagnosed a bit of colitis from eating something disagreeable and we had some anti-inflammatories and Pro-Kolin to help with gippy tum. Cleared up in about 48 hrs, so hopefully that's all it is for yours.

Try not to worry too much. A little blood in dogs poo is not necessarily a big problem. It may be he's been a little constipated or been straining which is where the blood comes from.
You are right to get him checked out though. He may have colitis and need some medication. If he's otherwise bright in himself don't worry too much.

Thank you. He's a bit sleepier than normal but still waggy tailed and came tearing upstairs to see me this morning when he escaped from the kitchen with my other half.

He's had a weekend away from home and been eating things he shouldn't (not from lack of diligence) so colitis makes sense.

The blood is more "on" the stool rather than "in" it if that makes sense?

Id definitely test his stool for worms and giardia..the blood and slime on his stool is a sign his gut is irritated. The history of eating horse poo etc would make me want to rule out parasites.

Doing that too. Vet didn't seem too concerned given how bouncy he was in the surgery with his waggy tail. He didn't have a temperature either

All better, now tearing around the living room carrying the elephant I bought him as a compensation for having a thermometer up his bum
