as some of you may know my friends horse Romeo caught himself in the fence last week. he seem fine in himself but earlier this morning i noticed there was some blood in his urine is this a sign of anything? never had a something like this before.

please help quite worried!

This needs a vet really. I would give your vet a ring. It's not something to be left or treated from advice on a forum IMO.

yes i know he has the vet coming out every day to give him antibiotics and painkillers for his leg. vet will be out this afternoon i just wanted to get a rough idea of what blood in urine could mean

Blood in the urine could mean kidney damage or damage to/infection of anything that's part of the urinary system so that's pretty much everything from the external "bits" all the way back to the kidneys. Could be unrelated to the accident but I'm not a big believer in coincidences. Vet. Fast.

Agree he needs a vet.

A horse of mine had blood in his urine a few years ago; the last few seconds of urine stream were pure blood; the out of hours vet was on his way out minutes after I saw it. The vet prescribed a course of IM antibiotics as he suspected a UTI but it turned out to be injury to the penis itself, most likely a kick. He made a full recovery. I think if the ABs had made no impact and we hadn't discovered the kick mark the next step was for him to go in for tests/scans to investigate possible kidney/bladder problems.

At the time I googled and remember finding quite a lot of useful information, might be worth a look.
