My TB injured her leg aound a month ago and although the swelling went down and she seems sound, the veins running down the inside of her back legs seem to become engored with blood and swell sometimes. I have been told this is called blood spavin but don't seem to be able to find much info about it. Does anyone know anything about it? Much appreciated!

Have to say I've never heard of blood spavin.
However, have just 'googled' and you are correct - it does appear to exist:
blood spavin - spavin caused by distension of the veins
Sorry, but can't find much info either - perhaps ask your vet where the best place is to find more info?

Never heard of it in a horse but I had something very similar in my leg after falling off into a jump and hitting my leg hard against a pole on the way down. In a human it is called phlebitis or thrombophlebitis. I had a sausage sized swelling along the vein, really gross and pretty painful. My doctor treated me with very strong NSAIDs and antibiotics over a period of about a month. Went away eventually and I'm fine now.

This could be something totally unrelated but my horse was always in the wars as a 4 yr old and he once had a vein that at one bit was like a massive varicose vein that enlarged even more after exercise, sticking out about an inch and a half. It was on his inner foreleg above his knee. My vet said it could be operated on but he would rather leave it to see if it would go on its own although he may be stuck with it. I put tubigrip on it every day and after a couple of months thankfully it just dissapeared.

OH's big horse had this, the vet came and had a look and said not to worry about it as it would settle by itself. Within a month it was gone but he still has pronounced veins on both back legs. You could show him and the judge wouldnt notice ;-)
