Blood test result - can anyone shed further light on this..(also in vet section)

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but my horse, who has had ulcers (badly), does a funny gulp when he is tense/stressed - it started when he had the ulcers and is now habit I think. It's not full on windsucking, and you actually don't notice it unless you are a)stood right next to him and b)I point it out, as it is very quiet, sort of an amplified swallow.

Odd.. that sounds like it though. Winnies isn't dramatic but I do notice it when I am stood next to him or on top. Thanks for that!

Mine makes a funny gulping sound, and haven't got a clue what it is; had a patch of reddening in stomach that wasn't quite an ulcer. Bloods not coming back quite normal

sorry if its already been said as i haven't read through all the posts :o

they can have negative results for strangles from swabs and strangles can show its self in loads of different symptoms

i was unlucky enough to be involved in a really bad case in a so called "rescue center" there were over 100 horses there ranging from foals to 30+ year olds and mares in foal of all different types from shetlands to big warmbloods :(
they were basically buying "meat horses" and anything else going cheaply and selling the geldings on ,putting the mares in foal = selling the foals

strangles was a big problem as they never did anything to control it ,even selling ones out the field and continuing to hunt there own ,it must have been going on for years

the point is it was the same virus but showed in many different forms ,one horse was happy as larry but had a lot of snot and nasty absesses
one horse (3 month foal) just started loosing weight but showed no other signs ,she died with in 3 weeks
mine had a cough and snots and was very ill but no absesses

some just looked a little under the weather ,some just died, but it seemed the ones with the asesses looked a little perkier than the others showing no signs at all

so it can be very different from horse to horse so i would be very careful as it does sound to me that it might have been strangles

sorry for waffeling on, hope theres something helpful there for you and good luck hope he feels better soon

I had a similar thing happen with a 3yo I bought at Goresbridge Sales this September. About a week after he arrived he went off his food and had a temp (no snots or cough), the vet came out and prescribed him Danilon and Norodine. His temp went back to normal after 24 hours. Two weeks later he got the snots and a cough, I phoned the vet and he thought it was strangles so I had his bloods tested which came back as negative. A week later the snots had gone but his cough remained so the vet put him on strong antibiotics for ten days, the cough improved but did not go entirely. He has had the course now but still coughs once or twice. The vet said that if the cough didn't go after the antibiotics, the next step would be getting him scoped. I'm tempted to leave him be for a bit (he lives out rugged 24/7) and see if he can fight this off on his own. As far as I understand it with the timings, the only way he could have strangles is if he caught it off one of the horses on the yard after he moved to my yard which is pretty unlikely as everything has been on the yard for ages and nothing is showing any symptoms. Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks.
