Anyone know roughly how much a blood test is going to cost in Essex for a pony?. Got the vet tomorrow and just wondering what the damage is likely to be. Luckily i've never had to get bloods done, well not for a v long time anyway. My veteran pony has dropped condition and although she's picking up I'd like to get blood tests done just so I get get a better picture of her overall health. Thanks x

I am in Kent and mine cost about £120 but they were quite comphensive as we did now what was going on with the ned so there was a fair amount of different testings done.

A proper veteran profile is not usually done by your vet the blood will go off to a lab (newmarket is where mine goes)

The lab fee is usually about £70 plus vat. You will then have your normal call out and any charge your vet will make for collecting and sending off blood.

The lab should keep a record and compare it every time you have another veteran profile done

A basic blood test costs £65 plus VAT at our Vets from what I can remember from my recent invoice I paid- they don't have to send it off though as tested in house so get the result straight away.

more comprehensive tests will obv. cost more.

A cheaper way to get it done is to see if the vet knows of any local hospitals that process animal samples (including biospies sometimes). The NHS recoups some money through private work and this includes vet work. The private price is about £30 for a basic biochem and blood count.
