Thinking of doing the early season hound exercise with the Cranwell blood hounds. Does anyone know how fast the first few meets are? Looking for mainly walk with a bit of trot. Don't mind canter but don't want to be bombing around!!

I've only done mid season bloodhounds. There was a fast group and a slow group - though they didn't quite give them those names. I joined the fast group for the first couple of runs - it was full pelt the entire run, then did the slow group for a couple of runs to give my horse a breather - I will have him even fitter next time! The slow group was mostly trot with some steadier canter.

ETA hound exercise will probably be mostly trot, I would have thought - but I'm sure if you ask the secretary or someone they will be really helpful and welcoming, and explain what goes on.

Thank you. I will give them a call.

Hound exercise is a consistent hound paced trot, designed to be pre-season fitness.

I'd contact the cranwell their secretary is incredibly helpful and she will confirm the pace.

Any hound exercise i've done be it bloodhound or foxhound is mainly trot with some small canter work.

The first few meets are usually walk and trot only 😊
