My donkey had a small sarcoid on his muzzle. It was treated with bloodroot ointment by my vet with the following instructions - apply twice daily for seven days and then stop. Leave for two weeks then resume course. My donkey needed two repeated courses for the sarcoid to succumb and there has been no recurrence for two years.
Apparently my horse had sarcoids before I bought him and they were treated with blood root ointment. I've had him almost 6 years and never seen a sign of a sarcoid anywhere!
Where are the sarcoids? Just a word of warning, whilst effective this cream is extremely painful at least for some horses. The two that I have treated have reacted very violently to the application of the cream after the second or third application. We had to give up with one of the horses as it was too dangerous (sarcoid near her udder), the other one was almost a no go too but the cream worked and the sarcoid has nearly gone after two sets of treatment. However, looking at it, it will need another week of treatment in a month or so. I hope you succeed with your pony.
Where is the sarcoid? Both my donkeys have had a single small sarcoid on their muzzles. One was surgically removed and the other treated with the bloodroot. Have all the different and appropriate methods depending on the sarcoid been explored?
I'm using it ATM on a pony. It cost me 120euro for a small pot our instructions said once per day for 2weeks then every 4days. The sarcoid was open and weeping before treatment. As of today it's looking like a thick scab and is about to fall off. It's still attached by a small fraction at the bottom (like a hinge) I'll get a good look when the scab falls off. After I paid 120euros I found it online for 80 I bet with a bit of shopping around you can find it cheaper. Didn't see any reactions from it, but the vet said it would be likely.
she has numerous sarcoids under her tail and between her legs which we have managed to keep under control with banding. this is a more recent one which has devleoped on her fetlock its rapidly grown to tennis ball size but was quite flat and difficult to band. it now has a band but it it bloody and weeping.
DEFINITELY do not use it under the tail!
I had a mare with a big sarcoid on her fetlock, as a result of an infected injury, I used bloodroot on it and it did come off, but she was in quite a lot of discomfort and it grew back.
Try a small amount on your own skin before you decide.
With bloodroot, you should follow instruction from your vet. Different sarcoids require different treatments and the type of sarcoid established before using a treatment that may have been successful on a previous sarcoid.
