After the boy getting fed up with schooling, having as much bend as a broom and just generally being an arse, for the last week I've been perserving with long reining.

Tried to canter him last week and got dragged around the school - he really had no bend at all!

Today, we got a lovely canter on both reins and when he struck off on the wrong leg he brought himself back to trot and cantered again on the right leg!!!! He wasn't rushing into canter and i think it's cause I stopped 'clicking' to make him canter and just shoved him with the rein so he got a strong clear signal to canter.

Such a good boy - think taking him off topline cubes and great grass has helped!

Sorry indulgent post but couldn't help myself.

Crikey - you must be fit to be running along behind him at canter!!

The trick is to zigzag them up the school in canter, then you can look really cool just walking along behind!

Ooooh good, it works for someone else too!
