Are the flies horrendous everywhere this year?

Mine have masks and fly rugs on but still look really bothered.
Fly spray just isnt doing anything?

I hate them!

today we have rain, but the past few days have been the worst i have ever seen for horse flies. Mine had full fly sheet on plus full face mask and drenched in spray and still jumped out of field on monday to escape them. I kept her in yesterday afternoon til it dulled down and got breezey. I was almost pleased to see the rain today lol

Yep i'm trying to ride at different times of the day to see if it makes a difference but so far as soon as we start to work i can hardly see for them

its driving them crazy even when they're up to their eyeballs with fly spray and gel :(

okay today though as it is now pee-ing it down with rain :D x

The flies are really bad and have been for the last couple of weeks here. We do live right next to a damp forest and turkey farm though. The horse flies are particularly bad, I've been bitten loads, the horses are covered in bites despite being plastered in deet, and only being turned out over night, being stabled from 7am to 9.30pm.

I've given up attempting to ride, as I can only ride Ted in the forest due the vet recommending not to ride him in the menage due to arthritis. The last hack we had was horrific, Ted jogged the whole way round, kicking his legs out and biting at the flies when he could. It was really distressing, he felt like he was going to bolt back to the lorry at any moment due to going crazy with all the flies. I've decided until they die down, it's not worth the stress of trying to exercise him as he's only used for hacking and having a bit of fun in his old age.

I really, really hate flies particularly horse flies as they really hurt!

Funnily enough I was only saying this to my friend today when her pony came in covered in flies all over her mask. Horrible things!! She's covered in spray+fly rug+mask xx

The flies are really bad where my horse is too. I have tried everything in past years but nothing has worked. We have been using Feedmark a lot this year seen as my horse has steady up. They now do their own fly spray and gel and I think its called blue bottle. Its brilliant stuff and has kept them away from my horse whilst I've been schooling him. It smells really strong and as soon as I've put it on him they all fly away, they hate it but I love it! :D
