Went to the yard his morning to get the yearling done so i could get off for an interview, leaving younger sister to sort out pony and broodmare. So i rush off and get a phonecall when im out of the shower and have half my makeup on
"Heather, something is wrong with Winnie (broodmare) shes shaking and cant walk"
so i said she could just be cold... nesh thoroughbred and all, told her to wack a thicker rug on and turn her out to get some fresh air and a stretch because her legs fill up.. ok bye..
two minutes later
"HEATHER THERES REALLY SOMETHING WRONG...SHE JUST FELL OUT OF HER STABLE!"
so im stood there half dressed, wet hair and only foundation on and asked if she needed me to come back.
5 minutes later im at the farm, and im met with a horse who was quite literally only JUST on 3 legs. If she could've stood on her front two she would've. Shaking all over, and clearly not happy.. so vet was called and we waited. In the meantime she attempted to walk forwards, but while trying to put the bad foot on the floor, almost collapsed as her front two were shaking so much! We honestly thought shed broken it. Cue much panicking and rushed phonecalls involving "laura get here NOW your horse is dying!!!" all the while winnie was panting, sweating, grinding her teeth and making bizarre noises.
Vet gets there and after much palpation reckoned it was either an abcess or a fractured pedal bone, and to poultice til monday, if no improvement then to go in for xrays. So, after buggering up and not having enough vet wrap we had to make the best of a bad job and nip to derby house for some more.
In the space of time it took us to go there and get back to change the poultice, the abcess had erupted from both sides of the frog and..honest to god ive never smelt anything like it...*shudder* it must've been really ready to pop by the time she actually went lame on it! and by god did she go lame.

Swear, anyone would have thought, the way she was holding herself and how much pain she seemed to be in that her leg had dropped off. Mardy bum!!!
glad shes feeling better now though, poor neddy! Vibes for more pus please!!
