Deary me...
For the third morning this week I have watched out the window as a very bold eight year old girl wound up my dog.
This girl has been told nicely, three or four times to stay away from 'their' area (it's a big yard) but every morning she starts, taking steps forward, not speaking, poker straight and the closer she gets, the more the dog gets wound up.
She's basically sending the dog a big 'eff you' - in the dog's head.
So today I lost the rag and really rapped the window and wagged my finger at her with a big angry face (dog also recognises a rapped window as a cue to STFU).
The best bit? Her parents were standing watching her. Again.
I'll not lie, I had no fear of dogs at that age and there were two I can remember from my childhood who I was obsessed with, but weren't the friendly sort, one ironically called 'Dangerman'
but my Mum was always there to swoop me out of the way and/or tan my hide if I got too close for comfort (I thought because my dog was incredibly tolerant, all dogs were
), this couple were just watching and smiling!!!
If the little girl wanted to meet the dog, why didn't they come and ask to meet him properly?
As at least one forum member can attest, he is great with kids and very gentle, but like many dogs is territorial and while I can go in his run and have a sit down and a chat with him in his kennel (er, there was no alcohol involved, honest
) I fully respect the right of a dog to have an area where they can have peace and quiet and not be bothered and I understand fully why he would be vocal if people come to close to that area - do some parents not teach their kids ANYTHING about respecting boundaries, human or animal?!
Before anybody suggests I should have had a chat with them, I don't think their English would have accommodated it.
Gah, rant over, all rants on any doggy subject welcome on a Monday morning, I'm off to pluck my eyebrows and channel my irritation through pain
