Bloody Sharers!!!

I really think this is a disgusting attitude - what about all the times the girl has mucked out/fed for you free of charge to be allowed to do nothing except walk and trot. She probably loves the horse but is getting fed up with the owners attitude.

Well said Katt in your post.

Surprisingly enough Katt not everyone can afford to pay someone else to do my horse! And I am be of them

Well the thing is that is the dilema for most horse owners, either you spare the time to do it yourself, you pay someone to do it or you make some other compromise.

I'm not loaded, and I compromised by not having a horse while I was unable to spare the time (due to a full time job) to do it properly but unable to afford to have full or part livery. Hence I have shared in the past.

For some people they choose to go down the sharer route as that compromise, but it generally means having to accept a loss of control and that someone else will be doing your horse in their own way. If you can't accept the loss of control then the options are, part livery, freelance groom, or selling up. You can't expect a sharer to do everything exactly as you want it at exactly the times you want 100% of the time. She shouldn't have jumped if it was a specific instruction not to do so, but your attitude to sharers generally is awful.

When I shared I was always prepared to do extra to help out when required but the owner was pretty free and accepting of the way I wanted to do things so it worked both ways.

I am very puzzled! You have a horse that is worked hard seven days a week so is presumably incredibly fit but you can't ride him every day and your sharer can't do much more than walk and trot safely so who is working him hard the days that you can't when you are working full time - presumably not the sharer!

I was wondering the very same thing - it would be fine if the OP chose a story and stuck to it, but it changes. Originally it was the sharer paying, then it changed to paying her back - not at all what the original post said!! Only a few days ago the OP was saying her YO checked the horses at 8.30pm when locking up for the night, now we are told she died in the summer. Whilst OP says the daughters are running the yard in this post, the post a few days ago implies (I must say implies as it does not say it) a long term and knowledgeable YO (not just a deceased YO's daughters).

I am an owner and I have been a sharer in the past so I have seen both sides of it. I now have a fantastic sharer and would look after her to keep her. She is not free labour just because I can't be bothered to pay for my own livery needs but that I know my horse is like gold dust and I wanted to share my good fortune with others (the type of horse I tried to find to share but could not find as they are all snapped up immediately through word of mouth),.

Simple answer is - if you can't afford to look after your own horse (by afford I mean time and money) then don't have one. What if you can't find another sharer at all - what would you do then? I would only have a horse if I know I could keep it without a sharer - having the sharer is then a bonus.

I don't want to rant but posts like this just make me furious as that is some poor person doing their best and all they get is someone being rude about them on a public forum. You criticise her riding but you must have been a novice at some point... Would you have liked someone riping you apart in public?

Show some respect to others and you may find they treat you the same in return!!

Know one gets trust or respect from me unless its earned and she sure as hell didn't earn either!!

Why on earth did you leave her alone with your horse if you neither trusted or respected her? You really are sounding like a spoiled child (I have no idea how old you are!) I suggest you grow a pair, admit you made a mistake, which led to this and get over it. Then perhaps find a more suitable yard for someone in your position or pay someone suitably qualified to work for you.

Exactly. FullThrottle, I really think you need to have a good look at yourself before you get another sharer. You seem to want to have your cake and eat it, and thats just not always possible.

It can also be a problem finding a horse to share when you are generally more experienced than the owner. :p

I'd love to find a horse to ride 2-3 times a week. 46 years experience. Happy to school young horses, teach to jump etc, take to comps (even have my own 7.5t lorry). Can SJ to 1.40m, BE to intermediate, even do stressage if forced to but just dont seem to be able to find anything to ride.

Haven't sat on a horse since giving up full time riding in July :(

I could do with you helping with my new one, I just dont have enough hours in the day!! If I was sensible I wouldn't have bought him but I didnt think with my head lol!

^^This!

And then people moan about not being able to get sharers - I ask you, with that sort of attitude, why on earth would anyone want to?!

TBF yunalesca i don't see where I have mentioned sharers age or called her a 'prat' I have just called it how I see it.

I have no problem with novice sharers no matter what their age, but they should be properly supported by the owner.I do however have problems with whingers (when they take no necesarry and immediate action) and users (op should make other arrangements). If op is happy to let it go on she should not winge about any damage done to her horse

If I have mentioned age and 'prat' please point it out to me and send me the web address of specsavers LOL :D because I can't see that in my posts, but I only scanned them so I may be wrong

Nooo, there was a tounge in cheek bit about nu,pty sharers form you and the impression from OP is that her sharer(or maybe she is an ex sharer by now?) is stupid and inexperianced.
Add that I very much doubt many adults would put up with the OP's attitude for some wak and trot when they could go pay a RS for some decent riding and I think the poor sharer is a young horse mad girl who does not know her hock from her elbow being taken advantage of #,when what she would need is a decent owner to show her the ropes... :(
