They drive you mad don't they. I work for a dealer & the amount of people Ive shown horses too, only for them to turn around after riding the horse for 40 minutes too say - hes too big/small - surely you knew that by looking at the advert!
Maybe you could put "no timewasters" on the advert, but I dont know whether that works
Trouble is the 'timewasters' don't realise that they are exactly that! I work for a breed rescue and when we have to place an ad for a specific dog I often want to put 'd.......s need not apply', but they still would as they don't think they are the ones I'm talking about!!
But then again there are some timewasting sellers too, who claim horses are something that they are not. Just because somebody comes to view a horse and doesn't buy it doesn't make them a timewaster - does it? Buying a horse is big investment, and most people are looking at more than one horse. Frustrating it may be, but better in the long run for everyone to get the right horse. IMHO
ISH_Mad, couldnt agree more - I would always want the right horse to go to the right owner - and never just to sell it so to speak. These people were complete twots tho! I suppose alarm bells when the kids didnt even have current standard riding hats! I think the hat was older than me - and as for the fit - dont even go there!
I had people ringing up about my potential FEI pony (with BE form) asking if she would go on loan to people who did RC handy pony!!!!!! Ha ha if you wanna go for a really fast gallop round then!
We are always on the look out for nice youngsters but I'm afraid people tell you such B*** **** and this "very nice young horse with a fabulous jump" refuses anything bigger than a cross pole!
We travel all over the UK looking for the right ones and when we find them we buy. We have even got to see ones that people have said are 16.1 and are in reality 15.2!
I appreciate that everyone thinks their horse is special but if I say on the phone we are looking for a show jumper then I expect it to be capable of learning that job. A couple of months back we travelled to Oxford (from cumbria) to look at one that was even a different colour from the photo in the ad! And clearly did not - and would never - jump!
I've had that too fatarse, had a JA who was a fair bit of money and a total stranger rang up asking if they could loan him for free .... like yeah I'm gonna do that, they were probably the same people as yours! My only advice furryears (after just selling my daughter 3 ponies) is to keep at it cos in the end I found lovely homes for all of them.
Goes both way - i believe if you honestly advertise a horse then you can sort of sift though when people call - ask them questions - not just them asking.
Cut down the time wasters and messers
I had one person who wanted to jump fox classes and thought they were 1m high lol
and someone who wanted a schoolmaster and called about a 4 yo he he x such twats out there
