Bloody weather...

My poor horse thinks he has been retired...

He has been in for near on 3 weeks and was last worked give or take, 2 weeks ago! I think he has done marvellous not to go stir crazy... I'm so pleased however how well he has held his weight this winter... I did struggle last.

How are all your horses coping x

My horses are quite happy - also think retirement has started and nursing tummys like they have had all the mince pies! I am going mad with boredom and no sign of arena defrosting!

My lot are doing ok, they have managed to get out in the fields a few times, although at the moment the yard is like an ice rink. Saying that they do think they have retired, they were on holiday just before the snow came and I had hoped to start riding again 1st Jan, but no chance, school is frozen solid and the lane is to slippy. Weight wise they are all great.......

Mine is fine. She goes out for an hour or so in the morning, or gets ridden, and has a leg stretch/worked in the evening. She is quite settled in her routine now, and isn't bothered about staying out, she happily greets me at the gate whenever I go up to catch her. Weight wise she is a little bit light, but not majorly so, and is eating an all fibre diet with LOTS of hay and hayledge!!

My two are being very well behaved (the major doses of calmer I think are helping) with some days in, and limited exercise. Roads are clear now and arena nearly thawed (arable farmer told OH today that frost was down 7-8" into the ground) so hopefully can do a bit more now.

My TB mare has definitely dropped a bit of weight though (looks very scrawny when I was lunging her tonight) but she get all the hay she can eat and vast amounts of feed so not sure I can do much about it until the weather is back to normal and they can spend every day out again.

We're really lucky our yard (Leyland Court Nr Bristol) has been managed brilliantly. Yard owners worked with tractors daily clearing snow and ice, salting walkways etc. So been able to ride in main arena everyday and use walker. Snow is melting now though and we were complaining about today's rain this morning! How quickly we forget!
