Crikey anyone into thoroughbreds take a look at the tatersalls website three mares sell for over 3 million guinees each on day two of the december mare sales makes you realise just how big a deal breeding the ultimate speed machine really is !

My god that is serious money im glad i wasnt the one leading those mares around the sales ring i think i would have passed out. Did you go up there this year i heard the weather wasnt too bad that makes a change?!

No I didn't get there on Tuesday - kinda wish I had now though! I was off too - I went shopping instead - for clothes for the new job

It's very exciting to be part of a growing and committed and wealthy company again - been a long time out in the desert for me!

spose theres always next year glad its over for this year better get geared up for the foalies arriving now best time of the year for me! Might have a bit of time for doing some clothes shopping now you got the right idea!

There's still breeding stock sales to go to though this winter - like Keeneland January, Horses of All Ages Sale.....

Re. the weather - WHERE did you hear that? It's been HORRIBLY wet and dull recently!! Not too cold though, as long you're out of the wind!

I was reading an article the other day and John Ferguson and Dick O'Gorman, on behalf of Sheikh Mo, have spent on over $70million on only 17, yes SEVENTEEN, mares at the US November Sales and here at Tatts!! The average was just over $4m a mare

some mates were up there and said they didnt really have much in the way of rain just quite windy i was shocked because every time ive been up there this time of year its horrible! Theres definately been some serious purchases then oh to be wealthy i would love to be in a syndicate and purchase a decent brood mare but i dont think i would ever be in a position to do so can always dream!!!!

What about all these Owner/Breeder Club's you see advertised, for like £5 a month of something daft? Just a thought.

yeh knowing my luck id either invest in one with three legs or something that runs better backwards!

i have thought about going in with people and buying a foal to resell at the yearling sales but it would be nice to be part of a winning syndicate thats for sure, think of all the champers you could drink

LOL!! Yep, gotta love the champers!! I've done that - pinhooked in partnership - fillies, bred them and sold them and also foals to yrlngs, with varying degrees of success, but my tiny piece of the final pie has been so infinitely small, that it's been negligible, but not lost anything ...... yet........

You should have gone today - some very cheap prices. Some of the mares were going very cheap (and in foal to very good stallions too). As for weather, it's been horrible most of the past two weeks up there - we've been either soaked or freezing each day. Must admit, if you wanted to buy a very well bred foal or yearling though, you would have been able to have picked one of them up at a very reasonable price. As breeders ourselves, we were thankful we didn't have anything entered for Tatts this year, but just hope that the foals due in 6 weeks time will make us some money, and that we've hopefully chosen the right stallions for our mares to be covered by next year. All a gamble, but maybe one day - we will breed THE ONE!!

good luck with your foaling heres hoping that one of them will be that little gem . Think we all hope for the same thing its a lovely dream and there is definately a lot of luck involved. im anoyed with myself sounds like there were some good bargains to be had!

He bought one of ours for $5.75M USD - the mares are so important. A good group of mares will get the young stallions up, get the price in the sales numbers up, and get into the winners circle.
