Arghh sorry guys just having a vent! Farrier came day before yesterday and trimmed my mare. Shes literally the easiest horse to trim, stands like a rock and has super 'straight' feet. I took her headcollar off and went inside after he trimmed her and didnt check her feet etc my mum called me out the next morning to say she was really reluctant to go out to the field so hobbled outside (sorry forgot to add I have a broken knee, dont usually make my mum do all the turning out ;) ) and the poor girl I stood on the yard like a laminitic Shetland! Had a nosy round her feet and he's taken half of it off! The poor girl is stood on her soles :( feel so so sorry for her shes now on Bute and an even thicker bed. Really annoyed with said farrier and also myself for not checking thee and then :( poor baby :(

By stood on soles do you mean soles level with hoof wall? This would be normal for mine? Obv you know what is normal for her though, has he taken a lot of sole off?/frogs?
Does she have pulses I would worry about lami from what you have said.

Oh no, poor girly, hope she is more comfortable in a few days, you could also ice bath her feet if she will tolerate it.
thank you! Never heard of that :)

You could complain to FRC. Probably won't help you but will add to their stats. And then get a good trimmer/podiatrist
Just really pee'd off really :( he's been trimming and shoeing for me for 3yrs now. Had an issue with my little chestnut in the summer from being shod really tight so have a different farrier do her and he's also been shoeing one of my geldings a tad tight for my liking really. He used to be so fab but think he's just too busy now and rushes everything. Dont think ill be using anymore now :(

No slightly lower :( she usually has pretty big feet and they look like teeny tiny pony feet tight now ☹ no pulses and pretty sure its not lami. She was ever so slightly sore the time before last after he trimmed her and I did mention it so he left more on and this time its really bad :(

Poor girlie is still super sore :( still no pulse but heat is still there :( going to get another farrier out asap (hopefully he'll nip by tomorrow) to see if maybe we can get a little set on the front to release a bit if the pressure. Last night i had to pop a fleece on her because she was chilly (first time in years shes had to wear a rug) and she got these weird muscle spams- have spoken to a vet who reckons they were probably from her aching from having to use the 'wrong' muscles to move and hole herself now etc. Her temperature seems fine and shes eating and drinking well still. Shes literally the sweetest girl ever and cant believe this is happening to her :( any miracle cures/help/suggestions are more than welcome!!

Can you get her some boots with soft pads? They will help if and when you can start getting her moving to stimulate new growth, if you can measure her feet most retailers will send overnight. And they offer good advice about which ones are best - I had a lot of help from Carolyn at Urban Horse but I do know there are others.

Happened to my horse this year. He was box rested for nearly a month. Boots and pads and soaked hay (his diagnosis was "stress" laminitis from the trauma of the shoeing and farrier having removed half his hoof!). Was bloody horrible to see.

Had a farrier years ago that did this to one of my boys - nearly crippled him! Even my non horsey OH looked at his feet and said "blimey! they look small!". To add insult to injury, that was the second time he'd done that, even after I'd spoken to him about it! Changed to a BF trimmer after that and haven't had a single problem since.

Yipee shea been much better these past couple of days so hopefully shes hardening off to it now poor girlie. Other farrier came out today and said he's reluctant to put shoes on as will put more pressure on the sore sole and said to tub her feet. He reckons we were very lucky to get away without lami they are so short. He had a look at the others too and reckons they'll be about 10weeks before they need trimming but is coming in 6 to check them anyway :) so angry that my poor girlie is so sore but really relieved shes starting to feel better. Thank you so much for all the replies and advice
