Blue and white - do they grey out?

Could you try taking photos again?

I'm going to throw the sabino gene at you for consideration. :)

Only if you look at her closely she has white flecks throughout her coat and in two places there are more white flecks than chestnut, giving her two blurry white spots.

She is a minimal sabino (which is one of the 'coloured' piebald/skewbald genes)

Do you know what colour the sire was when he was born?

Thanks Faracat. I'll try some more pictures and I'll try and find out what colour sire was when he was born (out of interest he's Master Harleyquin by Masterpiece). Ours looks a bit like the chestnut but the white isn't so noticeable - even the vets won't commit themselves - they've gone from bay to roan to "don't know what he'll end up as!"
 
Faracat, very helpful thank you. The first pictures you posted I had to do a double take the last one looks just like my youngster. With my older Blue/grey and white(?) he has a patch where all the colour has faded bar one 2 x 1" bit that is still very very dark grey almost black, it is the only part that has stayed the colour it was as a youngster, his face markings have gone he is just all white bar that little bit. Does that
Wan anything or is he just extra special lol?
 
Hmmm I can't remember re dock skin colour but will check! Unlike the other two blue and white shown in this thread that have been deemed as 'greying out' - this horse has a black muzzle with the only pink skin (I can recall seeing - not sure i payed enough attention to his dock) showing down the outsides of his blaze - rather than having a pink muzzle.

Could be the lovely named 'bloody shoulder markings' which don't actually have to be on the shoulder at all. ;) :p Basically BSM's are patches on grey horses that for some reason have failed to grey out.

Here's one that actually is over the shoulder!

Looks to me as if this horse was born bright bay. :)

This one has a BSM on it's face. :)

Wow, fascinating thank you! It does look just like that but on a smaller scale. You do indeed learn something new every day :)
 
NL - no problem, I love it when people are interested in the stuff that interests me too. :)

LK - it will be interesting to see what colour he is. :D
 
OK . . . don't have pictures, but took a good look at his fleabites today . . . they are both black and brown (mostly brown) on his body and down to his knees/hocks . . . then when he's not dappled any fleabites he has are black. Does this mean he was born bay?

Ahhh thanks for your help, Faracat. Such a shame he will grey out completely :(

Very interesting stuff to read though, must dig out my old genetics book and have a nosey! x
