I'm going to throw the sabino gene at you for consideration.
Here's a chestnut horse.
Only if you look at her closely she has white flecks throughout her coat and in two places there are more white flecks than chestnut, giving her two blurry white spots.
She is a minimal sabino (which is one of the 'coloured' piebald/skewbald genes)
Do you know what colour the sire was when he was born?
