I was looking at my horse the otherday, and bemoaning that fact that he could do with more topline, compared to my older mare who only gets ridden once a week, his is no better than hers!!
We are now tailoring his schooling to that effect (pessoa work, lots of long and low). He's naturally built with a hight head carriage (arab) so takes more work than average to get that muscle there but we will persevere.
Is Blue Chip any good for building muscle like that? I currently feed Simple Systems which suits him really well, as he gets ridiculously hyper on anything else! He has plenty of energy and holds his weight well....I currently feed a broad spectrum balancer (usually the Dodson and Horrell Ultimate Balancer) as don't feed as much SS as they recommend or he gets too fat! But was wondering about Blue Chip for the muscle development...is it really much better do people think?

Well it has worked wonders on my event horse,he is not a very good shape always slightly lacking in top line and behind the saddle, even when very fit,so l put him on blue chip pro 2 months ago and he looks fantastic l have just bought another bag and when thats finished l will decide if he needs any more, but huge difference!

Hi eventersrus, do you mind me asking if you had him on any kind of balancer before? Thats amazing that it has made that much difference! Perhaps I will give it a go!

I too have had great success with feeding Blue Chip! I bought a very lanky ex-racehorse 18 months ago, and whilst the schooling and lunging (in a pessoa) is the main contributing factor to the development of the correct muscles, I know that the Blue Chip has also played a part! This fact was proven when last summer I took him off it because he was eating more, and better, in general, so I didn't think he needed it anymore, but after 2 months I could see the difference! Needless to say I put him straight back on it!
I would say it's well worth trying, although it possibly doesn't work for everyone - what does?!

I found my mare did ok on blue chip but nowi use Top Spec and she looks amazing, have recommeded it to others on being an angle arab and the tranformation has been huge he looks the best i have ever seen him and we noticed the difference in 2 weeks

my boy looks fab on blue chip, he can be quite stream line on the top but mixed with the right work looked like a body builder on it last season so is back on it now hes back in work!

My boy was ill with a virus for ages last winter, had horrid bony backside with NO muscle, a combination of Pessoa and Blue Chip (plus pink powder) and better hay has sorted him out a treat and hes made it out of his 13th winter a lot better condition than he did his twelfth

The way I look at it is, if it stops the vet coming like he had to last winter so many times, itll save me money and Ill have happy healthy horse.

sorry to butt in emma, im thinking on blue chip too but for a pony - 13hh, for condition and muscle building. has anyone used it on ponies?

emma have you decided whether to give it a shot or not?
