Saw this, one of the last public appearances of the late Blue HorsMatine, on another forum and just had to share. She was so beautiful.

Damn! Can't do links! The clip is titled Andreas Helgstrand - Hungstekaring 2007. Perhaps someone else can do the link?

My friend's mare is due to foal to him next May - exciting!

^^This made me giggle :P. There are many Blue Hors stallys (Romanov, Don Schufro, Don Romantic, Dexter and Bentley just to name a few off of the top of my head) but Matine was a mare with a uterus :p. Uterus + Uterus = Nothing. Bugger all. So either you or your friend is confused or Matine was a tranny (highly doubt the latter)

Why is she a 'rags to riches' story? She was a well bred, well produced horse from a reputable stud who, prior to her GP career, did quite well in YH classes. It doesn't take away from what she was, but she was hardly found in a field. ;)

I seen this mare at 2006 WEG in Aachen, think when she done her GP test the place almost came to a standstill, if people weren't watching it in the arena they were watching in the stalls on the TV's that were showing the live test.
Think I almost cried watching her.

Wow Lucky you !! I would like to have been there and I would have cried !

When she died was she in foal and if so did they save it does any one know ?

I think you'll find she was used as a Circus Horse at one time or another and was not very well kept at all. poor lady.

Are you getting her muddled with the big grey Russian horse whose name escapes me?

Matine was my favourite dressage horse too - such attitude and musicality :)

Got it - the Russian horse is Balagur I think....

Yep, Balagur was ridden by Alexandra Korelova, but before that was in the circus and then the mounted police! Who says dressage horses are useful spindly legged divas!

Love love love this test (watch it far too often :p )
Out of interest, what sort of scores did she get? IMO I always think that test is better than any of the more recent tests, but are the scores comparable?

If I remember rightly (I probably don't :p) Andreas got 81% and Anky won with 86%

I have seen both tests on Youtube and I thought Matine's was so much better artistically and for sheer beauty of paces. Anky's was presumably better technically. I am obviously not alone in thinking that Matine should have won!

I can't watch either of those vids without crying - she was such a beautiful, talented and elegant mare. Andreas must have been devastated at the loss of her.
