Hey,

Not sure if its something I should be worrying about really but would like to see what everyone thinks...

I got a 2 year old over the weekend who hasn't been handled at all and is very nervous of people and very head-shy. He was gelded on Monday morning so is in his stable until it heals enough to go into the field without opening up the wound again, so i've been grooming him etc to get him used to me. However this morning I found almost like blue paint on his left hind leg that wasn't there when I put him to bed last night.

Does anyone have any idea of what this is or how hes come about getting it?! I'm baffled as to what it's from as theres nothing in his stable that could have cause it?

Thanks for your help - I know its pathetic and is probably nothing but just curious!

Anything blue in the stable ?

Re the keeping him in after gelding, I thought it was better to let them out so it didn't swell, kept in, bedding can stick to the wound and might get infected, horses I've known have been gelded in the field for this purpose

This ^^
It sounds like he's been sleeping and the spray has transfered onto his leg.
Also i agree with noisygirl on turnout.
Mine came in at night but was out all day to keep the swelling down.

Nothing of that colour in the stable bar his water buckets but the mark is significantly higher than the buckets are and quite a neat circle?

Yes i thought so as well, but as he is new to the yard and new horses etc, the vet didn't want to risk him running around and opening up the wound - he is being walked out twice a day and im keeping an eye on it for infection as well :)

Did your vet spray your lad after he was gelded? Sometimes they spray on a spray to keep it cleaner which is often blue

THANK YOU! yes, he sprayed it with some antibiotic spray things and powder and thinking of it - he was lying down when i went up this morinng! Awh thanks guys! i was worrying!
