Quick quick, call the RSPCA, that Kermit McBaydale has been squishing ponies again!

You all know what the Blue and White bit is - the lovely Ralph, all 15hh of him - strutting his stuff at Shelford PN, I mean BE100, yesterday.

The Black and Blue bit is what he did to his lovely owner last week. Having left my place after a lesson - much sitting and waiting for the fence to come to you, rather than hooning at breakneck speed towards it - Claire was leading him through the gap between her trailer and the stable when bang, the next thing she knew she was on the floor with her head split open, a sore leg and an arm she couldn't move. Something had spooked him and, whilst we know he can jump 5ft, 5ft 1in was beyond him :p, so he caught her on the way over. She dislocated her shoulder, has a haematoma the size of a rugby ball on her leg and her split head is glued together. However, plucky sort that she is:), she was determined he would get to Shelford albeit not via the Cottesmore PC ODE last Wednesday, as planned.

Our merry throng of PC mum (driver/nurse), PC daughter (groom and fence-putter-upper), C (owner/Director of Operations) and I (rider and stud-putter-inner) arrived and blitzed the B&W with attention in readiness for his first BE dressage test. It's fair to say he's not the biggest mover, in fact the only big thing about him is his personality and ego, as he truly believes he is a Burghley horse (Burghley PC maybe...;)). His usual thug-like tendencies weren't evident, and he did the sweetest, softest little test, with no major mistakes other than one trip (my fault probably for over-loading him with my bulk :o). Team B&W were all happy and smiley, and I didn't get bo***cked for riding like a numpty anywhere - our trainer/rider relationship is a reciprocal one, depending on whose turn it is to squish the pony - and in my defence, I haven't sat on him since the Buckminster PC ODE in early July.

Groom/f-p-u and I then went and walked the course while the B&W one straightened his back out and had a snooze. I had to have some caramel shortbread in readiness for the showjumping (Princess Baydale, what she wants, she must have:D), and I was then feeling the pressure somewhat of having done a 29.5  dressage, best so far with half a dozen more marks to go up. Ralph is a fab jumper but it still took some getting my eye in after my huge steeds, so a few comedy moments warming up ensued, lots of funny looks from other competitors and my tummy doing cartwheels. Never mind the *qual-ity-can-ter* mantra to the rhythm, mine was more of a *don't-stuff-up*... Thankfully the dude pony delivered a lovely clear and there was ear-to-ear grinning (me) and heavy breathing (him).

The Bit of Green was me changing into my Kermit Superhero attire, and also the colour of my face probably, quaking at the pressure of being in with a shout.:( We had a loooong discussion about whether the straight route into the water was a good idea - yeah, no, yeah, no, more *don't-stuff-up* chanting - and off we set, looking like something from a Thelwell cartoon. I was convinced my threatening behaviour would work to go straight off the step into the water, so a well-timed growl and he launched about half way across, much to the delight of Thistle and her cheering gang. Ralph had worked out that my kick on landing meant Warp Factor 8 was required, so he just kept galloping and jumping, feeling like they could have been skinnier, wider, bigger, whatever, and he still would have jumped them. As TarrSteps put it so succinctly when she saw him, he really is a freak, as he has this huge jump that really shouldn't come from something that looks like - and I mean this with no disrespect - nothing more than a very smart PC pony. Admittedly on the home strait he did pop a pony stride in to the second last, probably just so he could catch his breath and also to check that I was still concentrating,:p but he finished well, to more broad grins and patting and polos and chattering from Team B&W.:D I was sure he had gone quick enough but you just never know on the vertically-challenged ones, do you, as everything seems to be whistling past so quickly regardless of what speed you're doing - it must be because you're so close to the ground or something?

Finally, the Red part of the story: we only bloomin won, didn't we?:D;) Woo hoo, a damn good effort for his first BE and very well-timed it was too, not just to cheer up his battered and bruised "mum";), but his soon to be chemically-battered "step-mum", as I had some bad news this week when I found out I've got breast cancer.:( Thank God for ponies eh, guaranteed to cheer you up one way or another.:) So, join me in the remains of the rose from last night (or I will when I get back from work), some cashews and let's drink to good friends and happy times.:D

This about sums it up for me:

I'll post the link to the photos when they're up.

What a FAB report - you both look like you are having so much fun in that pic. And wow a 29.5 dressage and a red rosette - can't get much better than that :D

As for your bad news you know I have already said what a complete bugger it is :( but a tough, horsy, yorkshire girl like you will kick its butt of that I am quite sure.

Now you better go tell those Cheeky Boys what they have to live up to  I am quite sure Jup won't take not being top dog lying down ;)

Blooming well done mrs! V.impressive, especially with recent news! Love the photo! Next challenge for you will be simple in comparison to the ponies you get to wrestle ;) take care.x

whooooop whooooooooop whooooooooooop

You know my opinion on all of the above already - amazing bit and *****e bit! But i'll say the good bit again............blue and white rocks!!!!!!!!! Mind you, Ralph looks like he is a more elegant version of blue and white than my big headed beast :)

Will attempt to make it 3 blue and white wins in a row at firle next week but can't make any promises ;)

Holy Moley!

I was really enjoying your report until right at the end :(.

Well done for a fantastic day on the Blue and White one, A bit of pony squishing will teach him not to jump on his mum again! Sound like you had the most fun ride on him once you got over the pressure from your back up team :D:D

On a more sober note I wish you all the best with your treatment, I wish I had wiser words to offer but I am fortunate in having no experience of that sort of thing.

I hope you manage to stay positive and that you'll be back out eventing (and beating everyone :D) in no time. :)

Oh ***** B, I'm so sorry about your bad news but like the others have said you are tough and will nail it.

Fab report and I LOVE the picture. What a dude and well ridden!

Ohhhhh a win, we do like them:D:D:):) Super duper & great timing too. Sounds like Ralph had a bit of making up to do to his Mummy too - what a sore one, ouch.

Best of luck with your forthcoming brush with the chemicals - keep in touch x

Yay for the little 'uns! (it makes pictures look more impressive when they're only little you know! ;) ) Well done for "squishing" him into submission for such a fab dressage score and DC. I hope we will see more of him again soon?

As has been said already, the cancer has way more to fear of you than you do of it, it will have it's backside swiftly kicked I'm sure and I hope it doesn't get in the way of the end of the season too much. You will have a huge amount of HHO vibes behind you and we look forward to celebrating your own personal DC in the near future. :)

Fantastic report, glad there are other thug ponies out there too!
As for the chemical side of things, sister was diagnosed 2 years ago, has now finished chemo and radio and managed to carry on competing inbetween, allbeit not as many as she would have liked and a lot of help from family keeping horse fit, but the point is she's now off to do her first intermediate this weekend!!!! she took the attitude that you have to show it who's boss and I'm sure you will do too
Sorry don't normally post much, being new and shy ;) but the last part hit a nerve and wanted to send positive thoughts

Fantastic report and congratulations on the win - always look forward to your reports as they're so upbeat :)

As for the chemicals - that sucks, PMA, chin up and kick on YOU will win that one too

A Win, FANTASTIC :D, love him, though I do have to say he looks quite big to me but when you 5ft nothing everything looks big, LOL :D

As for the other thing , like everyone else has said GO KICK ASS & show it whose boss, the very best of luck with you treatment, :)

I said it all yesterday, ponies rock! He has def been on the 'growmore' though.

BTW Buckminster was in may this year, it's even longer since you rode him.

As for the other stuff, well it daren't mess with you when you mean business.

Thanks DHB, wait till you see the other photos, much grinning on most of them!:D I think I can still manage to stay smiley for the next year, don't you?

The CBs are only interested in eating (Jup) and eating and sleeping (Cal) - if they'd seen the bag of carrots Ralph won that might have motivated them.;)

No pressure re next week...;)

Thanks, hopefully he'll learn to pick on someone his own size next time.;)

I'm planning on being positive, just thinking that on occasions I might be positively knackered, or positively sick, but that'll pass.

Congrats on the win, your pic looks lovely.... you can't beat ponies that make you grin from ear to ear like that, they're priceless!!

Sorry to hear about your other news too.... Stay strong, show it you mean business and im sure it'll all disappear in no time at all!!

I'd forgotten what a win was like! Agreed that Ralph owed his Mummy that one. He's having a holiday now until she's mended so hopefully he'll feel neglected and be a good boy when he comes back into work.

You will see more of him but it depends how quickly C mends whether he does a couple more this season. He's only 6 so there's no hurry.

I'm planning the rest of the season as normal and have a willing volunteer, two actually, ready to ride mine if I feel rough (more fool them:p).
