WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
The perfect song to some up how I feel right now - my lovely little donkey deserves a medal!!!!
Yesterday we had our first solo hack - no escort on foot or on another horse, just Till's and myself. Decided that we were both bored with the usual ride (must have done it a dozen times now and there's only so much variety it offers) so took her on a 4 mile loop, of which 2/3 she'd seen before, and included a stretch of bridleway.
Well she was awesome - she has the most fantabulous walk, seriously impulsive and forward and she can really track up and certainly enjoyed the change of scene as her ears were pricked the whole way and we didn't have a single spook for the whole ride including going under a railway bridge that unfortunately had a train go over it just as we were halfway through, going over some rivers, past a pub and through the local village, past cows, sheep, farmyards etc - she wasn't phased by any of it!! We passed a few people we knew and she politely waited while I had a chat with them and then the best bit...
I CANTERED HER
My first ever canter on her!!! Along the bridlepath which had perfect footing I just slipped her into canter and it was perfect - there was a gental breeze and the sun was just starting to set so all the fields had a lovely gold tint to them. Her ears were pricked the whole time and she has the most gorgeous canter, really brings her hocks under and pings each stride but without any choppiness - sort of like being on a big bouncy rocking horse!!
She pulled up politely to do the gate, which although she'd never done one before she did like a pro, then popped her back into canter for the second stretch before pulling up for another gate which again she did very well and then we walked the final stretch quietly and calmly, she didn't get wound up of phased at all by it!!!
So she had a carrot as we rode past the house, then cut the corner off the final stretch home by going across "the peak" - a big stretch of grass with a hill on it and she went past all the cows that were grazing within 3 feet of her as though it was nothing, and finnishe off a lovely ride with an extra large tea back at the yard.
Im on cloud nine
And as I go away on Thursday she has 2 weeks holiday to look forward to
