BMW X5 for towing trailer, any good?

Probably OK to good on road, have a rep as pretty poor as soon as you get on to grass or mud.

Also used to drown themselves (as in suck in water and fubar the engine) as soon as you went through the tiniest flood, have an idea that's been fixed but not sure.....
 
Used the old style one for some years towing all over the country. Never got stuck in any mud, even when the tractors were having to pull the horse boxes out. Loved it but the electrics started going wrong and the doors wouldn't lock, etc so it was time to go. Would have liked another newer one but they were too expensive so have gone for a VW Touareg this time (it's husband's car most of the time when I'm not towing two horses!)
