Hi,
Has anyone got any experiences of the boa boots? I wanted to used them for hacking/pleasure rides on my semi-retired mare. She normally has shoes but hates being shod and someone recommended these as an alternative.. However, she is fussy about wearing boots on her legs so I cna't imagine they take to these very well? Any inputs welcome!

Thanks

Yeah, they're good. Just chuck them on her in the field to get her used to them. Ive used to them on my old veteran pony on his "footy" days out in the field and have also hacked him out round fields in them, cantering etc. fine. Theyve never slipped or rubbed.

I like them. They are easy to put on/take off and in my experience don't rub (although I usually put an old sock on just in case). They look and sound a bit clumpy but my horses don't seem to mind, and they stay on at all paces.

Used them temporarily on a school pony whose feet we wanted to improve (he wouldnt keep shoes on etc, weak crumbly feet ect) and I found they slipped round, but im sure this just depends on each individual horse and the size/shape of their foot.
We are currently using a pair of easy boots on one of our horses when ridden and these seem to stay in place well- they have a velcro strap around the fetlock to make them more secure

I went to a sponsored ride yesterday and chatted with someone who used them as I am interested in using them on my endurance arab. She said they are very good and they have never come off even at gallop.

Only downside she said is that they take a little while to get used to so it took her a while to put them on at first.

Suppose its like using screw in studs for the first couple of times.

She had these: http://www.easycareinc.com/our_boots/old_macs_G2/Old_Macs_G2.aspx

used them on my old gelding, as a stop gap until he had some foot to nail to.... Never again. dispite measuring his feet many times and getting the right size, they twisted so that the boots were always at 90 degrees to where they should have been. He got terrible sores no matter what i did. Sold them on e-bay in the end. Found the easy boots were the better option

They're ok. They're a pain in the ass to put on if the feet are woder than long, and they can rub quite badly if used for longer rides. They also have poor grip in mud and wet grass. However, they rarely ever come off (a big problem with some boots)

Which type of boots you need totally depends of the horses foot shape. It's like fitting a saddle. Some suit short feet, some suit wider feet, some suit narrow and long feet. Some are difficult to out on, or keep on, depending on the foot shape. And some can't be used for long rides without rubbing.

Have a look at easycare website (they make most of the boots avalible) and look at the easyboot range, the boa boots and the old mac range before you make a decision. Also look up Cavallo Simple Boots.

Boots can be great and work really well, but they can also be the bain of your life if you don't get the right type to suit your horse.

no experience of Boa but have used cavallo. there ok for hacking, i wouldnt like to use any boots for long rides or competition though.

I also use the Old mac g2s. There fab. A bit fiddeley to put on but good. I ride in mine for ages, I do fast work in them, jump in them and today I even went XC schooling in them. I would just say they are a bit iffy on grass for jumping if ground is quite hard but fine at all other times. Apart from that there fab.
