Would you let your dog go to a company type franchise(home boarding service), collected by a representitive of the company (it (your dog) apparently stays in a compatible home) but you do not get to see the home or meet the people, but you could possibly if it can be arranged maybe speak to the persn looking after your dog.

Would you let your dog be cared for in this type of scenario when going on hols?

No, I would want to meet the people involved in looking after my dog as well as seeing the place in which it is to be kept

As Gina. Also - I only let mine board where they do because I know the fella that runs it, he belongs to our dog club and he keeps GSDs himself (and has used the same sire as mine

) so he knows their 'quirks'
tongue.gif

Nope - I would want to see where the dogs were staying, and talk to the people who would looking after them (to give them my sympathy

)

Lol......well the look on my face gave my answer

there is apparently a franchise that does this and 2 of my clients used them once andd said never again, there is no way on this god given earth I would hand my dog to some so called dog sitting rep and have a relaxing holiday, I would rather place it in a secure boarding kennel where I literally saw them lock my dog securely in if it came to the point my mam could never take my dogs.

I thought I was maybe being synical....but I was rather horrified

What ^^ she said!

More than anything I would want them to meet the dog at least once before they looked after, especially as Otto is such a stressy nutter

Exactly.....what would happen if said people could not cope with your dog and u are on a flight to the Bahamas.....what happens then

it must happen?

My dogs are pretty well adjusted but the I bet if they were put in a van and driven to a strange house with strange people and potentially other pets, it would *really* unsettle them.

My dogs know their boarder and a couple of his dogs, his set up is similar to ours in terms of his kenneling and exercise area, I leave them there and I pick them up and those are the reasons why I am happy with it.

Sounds bonkers to me!!!

My friend recently did work exp at boarding kennels but said they don't allow clients to look at kennels. When she showed me the pictures and told me the day to day running, I was horrified
crazy.gif
There is no way I would let any on mine go for all the money in the world!

In saying that, I wouldn't be able to put any of my 3 in kennels, you need to be special to look after them

TBF the Kennels I worked at had two gates to go through before you got to the inside of the kennels, and we didn't used to let Clients through them to look around, too much potential for a dog getting loose and buggering off!
We did have 2 extra humungous kennels on their own that were saved for people with several large breeds and usually empty. People were shown around those, making sure they understood that the kennels their dogs would be in were smaller
grin.gif

Although the amount of people that would ignore the Staff Only signs and walk through the gates and leave them open, was ridiculous!!

I could never leave Leah somewhere like that - she'd probably make herself ill, because she doesn't like strange places even when we're there with her, let alone on her own! It's very worrying that people would leave their dogs with a total stranger they'd never met.

We board Leah and Poppy at a lovely kennels we've used for years, the couple who run it are very nice and they know Leah's little neuroses, she knows them, and when we drop her off, despite not being very happy, at least she recognises the place and knows we will come back for her! Poppy's the most chilled out dog in the world, I don't think she'd care less if she never saw any of us again, so she's no trouble - but Leah takes some getting to know!

I find it disturbing....all I can think is there is alot of trusting people out there.......who maybe don't think of 10 possible scenarios of "what could happen if" like I do
crazy.gif

Nope, not cynical at all. It horrifies me as well.

I certainly couldn't do it. I mean, I wouldn't even be able to do that with the children....and they're currently annoying me like hell!

I've never visited the place where Stella boards (it's a three-hour drive north of the city) but I know the owner and the employees very well. Visitors are welcome at any time, but the idea is the place is a getaway for city dogs, hence the free transport provided.

Besides, it's not your average kennels.
grin.gif

Another would never do this from me .

At the yard where madam is kept, The yard owner also has boarding kennels, Anytime I have went away, Tikka boards there, Shes been to the yard plenty of times and knows the yard owner .

I couldn't leave her anywhere else, at times I feel very guilty for even leaving her there, not the the fact the kennels aren't good , but its just the fact that she is a rescue dog and shes come from kennels, So I also tend to think that she may possibly think she is going back to that life
frown.gif

She obviously knows now that its just a wee holiday and its a home from home kennel .

That is exactly how I feel with Leah! She was a rescue dog too and she HATED kennel life - she was so stressed she made herself ill - and even now she doesn't really enjoy going to boarding kennels. I always feel horrible leaving her there, because I think "does she know we're coming back?". I suppose that's why it's so important to trust the people you're leaving them with - if I thought the kennel owners would be at all unsympathetic she would never go there again.

When I read your first reply I was convinced somebody had asked you if you thought it was any idea to start up such a "service" and my jaw dropped down when I read your second reply about that it already existed, I hadn't thought they would get any clients at all!

I only trust my mother to look after my dogs and I would never ever hand them over to a complete stranger to take them to a place I had never seen. I would fear it would be the last I saw of my dogs.

"but you could possibly, if it can be arranged, maybe speak to the person looking after your dog." Oh well that makes me feel reassured *shudder, shudder, shudder* !
Even if they said that it could always be arranged that I could speak to the person looking after my dog, I doubt I would trust it.

Although if we are talking about boarding kennels, there was a Swedish chronicler that used to write about her dogs. One time she wrote about when their two Irish Wolfhounds had been staying in a boarding kennel for the first time, when they came to pick their dogs up, the dogs came out from the kennel and became extremely happy to see them but when they realised that the owners began going to the car, the dogs tried to go back to the kennel instead...
blush.gif

Since their dogs usually enjoyed car travelling, it at first didn't make their owner that happy but later she decided that at least she could now leave them there again without any bad feelings.

grin.gif

Absolutely no way. If mine has to stay away, there are only three people who I am happy for her to stay with - all people she knows very well and whose homes she goes to regularly with us. I would never leave her in kennels at all, certainly if she was being collected by a stranger.

I haven't read other posts but no I wouldn't. My dog would never go anywhere I didn't know, imo it would be unfair to send him to the unknown.
