Can anyone help. I seem to the the only person in the horse (dressage) world with a bob. It looks so silly under my hat. I tie it back into a ponytail but it's about 1" long and sticks out like a spout. It's very thick and too short to tuck up inside my hat. Too short for a bun. Too short for a false bun. Too short for a nice scrunchie. Too long to be left loose. Huge first world problem. Anyone else out there with a bob, and what do you do? Compete BD and try my best to be smart but silly spout spoils the picture.

Hairnet - I have a similar problem, though the front of my hair isn't long enough to reach the back of my head so I only have a spoutlet.

I have the same problem. I'm not a dressage rider but do low level eventing and try not to look like a complete scruff in the dressage phase as it's my weakest phase anyway. I have done the rubbish pony tail but bits falls out either side of it. I'm currently using a hairnet but I'm not really sure I have enough hair to fill that either so that probably looks stupid as well.

I'm rubbish at getting my hair cut frequently so it will probably get long enough to go in a proper pony tail in a bit. I'm seriously considering though next time I go just taking my hat with me and asking the hairdresser to cut round the bottom of it. That should solve the problem, even if I look like a dork the rest of the time!

Could you do a French pleat? (possibly 2 depending on length)
If it’s mostly under a hat it doesn’t need to be neat.

I had a pixie cut for many years, not even enough hair to pull into any form of pony tail. So I had a fake bun which I sewed onto a piece of elastic and put around my head (so like a head band with a bun attached at the back). Then popped a hairnet over the top, and then a scrunchie. Looked like a normal bun with my hat on.

Message me if you want photos of what I mean.

I should have said in my original post. I used to wear hairnets religiously, but found with age and my hair being drier, that harnets were chopping off bits of hair (I guess friction under the hat or something). It hasn't happened since I stopped wearing hairnet and took about 12 months to grow out.
I currently use a headband round my head to keep the sides tidy, and a traditional elastic bobble/hair tie at the nape of my neck, but it is so small and sticks out and looks really silly. I try through the hat strap thing at the back, and under it and neither look good 🤷‍♀️🙈#firstworldproblems

I feel your pain. I started the year with a stupid short bob that couldn't be tied back and stuck out everywhere under my hat. I've grown it a bit and now the small pony tail, like yours, looks like a spout. My plan is to grow it into a shoulder length bob so it can be tied back properly. And then I will look like an elderly Rachael Reeves. Great

Have a look on some of the sidesaddle pages - they’re good at sorting turnout/buns and hats. Sometimes two hairnets work better than one. False bun attached to a hairnet and lots of hair spray (yuck!!) usually keeps everything in place.
