Hi,
I wondered what everyones thoughts are on what is the best time of camera to use for road safety whilst out hacking? I wanted to avoid a camera fixed to my riding hat after what happened to Michael Schumacher so went for a Cambox Pro as that fixed under the visor with velcro so thought it would detach quite easily in a fall.
I don't want to go into too many details about my experience with the camera I just wish I had read the Trust Pilot reviews before ordering :(
The battery life was terrible, I was lucky if it lasted an hour so I contacted them on the best way to extend the battery life which was an external battery pack and flat USB cable. Unfortuantely this solution did not appear to make the device waterproof even though I followed their advice to the letter and they refused to fix it under warranty.
So I'm left looking for the best alternative, obviously it needs to last on long hacks, I'm thinking a Go Pro 12, although I do wear an Air Vest so I'm wondering if Go Pro's chesty mount would be okay, i.e. what would happen if the Air Vest inflated whilst wearing a chesty mount.
Seems like you can easily swap the battery out on the Go Pro as well so if it did run out whilst out hacking I could just pop another one in.
Thanks everyone and will be interested what you all think? :)

Hi tda, I guess the Cambox would have been great for your OH as they do a version that's compatible with a motorcycle helmet but I guess he may have the same problem as me if it rained whilst he was out riding which living in the UK is a distinct possiblity I would say 🤣🤣

I use this one - it's simple to use (I'm not best at tech!) and battery lasts ages (6-8 longish rides)

I only switch it on for the road parts. I've used the images to submit to the police (regularly sadly) and it's all simple to save, edit and submit.

the mount swivels and the elastic isn't super tight (it can bounce a bit in bouncy trot) so I think in the event of an accident it - hopefully - gets pushed out of the way rather than smashes my head.

If you were super clever you could probably find a way of attaching it to a shoulder strap of some kind

Thanks for the recommendation Polos Mum, I think that's the type that tda's friends use. I like the idea of the wireless remote control that goes on your wrist too 👍
Looks like the battery life is comparible to the GoPro as well and the idea of being able to record from behind is definitely a positive.
I've had a look at the accessories and it looks like the shoulder strap would then mean you wouldn't have to have it mounted on your hat which I'm trying to stay away from.
Sorry to hear that you've had to submit footage to the police, some drivers are very ignorant. I only started to see the imporatance of wearing a camera after a van (which didn't stop ) clipped my horse which ended up with a trip to the hospital with 8 borken ribs and a punctured lung for me 😣

My Go Pro 7plus was amazing, with a remote fob, did miiiiiillllesss with it, came off with it, Go Pro 9 black I have now has excellent picture quality, but useless remote and voice commands are hit and miss, sometimes switches itself on during charging and gets red hot, I still use it successfully with the record button and listen at the beeps to know what it's doing, remote a waste of time, I wear it on my hat, lets face it, the amount of people using one hat mounted and no issues...if it caused you a problem in an accident, it deffo was your time to go

I like the Ghost Drift X, its a bullet shaped one, 5 hour battey life with option for extra large battery that does 8 hours. Waterproof or as close as you can get (survived 6 hours in a downpour, had to change my coat 3 times) and buttons you can do with gloves on.
I use a chest harness and shoulder mount, perhaps would work under the airjacket instead? although it would get squished into your face a bit when the jacket went off I imagine. Thats a risk with any body mounted camera and an air jacket unfortunately. I used mine over a back protector and fell off and had no issues with it. You could use an elastic helmet strap so it would ping off in an accident but I feel like you might hang it on a tree somewhere!

Reason I only use head mount, is so I can record directly "where I look", which is mostly vehicles passing too fast, occasional dog problem, I upload to police capture site, for what it's worth, police are almost useless, reported 4 last week with video, they only sending an "education letter" to one of them FFS, I did report another driver to his company for driving with his elbows and texting, I looked straight at him whilst videoing, took a still photo from it, excellent quality and banged to rights.

I'm leaning towards the HC-1 at the moment, looks like it's compatible with GoPro mounts so thinking a backpack mount which would attached to the shoulder strap of the air jacket.
It certain does sound like the Techalogic cameras are being mentioned a lot in this post so think their cameras may be the way to go, thanks everyone 👍

In the end i went for a HC-1 with a clip that I then attach to my air jacket, seems to be working really well, I set the resolution to 720p and the battery was half full after a 2hr hack, really pleased and would definitely recommend 👍

Following a dog attack on my pony I came straight home and put a Techalogic DC1 on my credit card! They are not the cheapest, but I wanted one which provided both rear and front camera footage.

If you are on the "Pass Wide and Slow" FB group you can put in a code (think it is PWAS but not sure, you'd need to ask on the group) and you will get a discount.

I have the thing mounted on my hat; but you can also get shoulder straps for if you wanted it there. I'm considering this.

The big plus about Technalogic is if you DO need the helpline when setting up your camera (I did, as the video's are not clear in parts) you can actually speak to a PERSON. Very helpful.
