My daughter is just outgrowing her Airowear Reiver 010 Body Protector so I'm in the market for a new one. I have an option of ordering on line or getting one from Decathlon, there's not a hughe selection here for her size (I mean most people don't even ride with helmets here). Should I just get her a bigger one or should I look at the more expensive ones like Racesafe? She only wears it for hacks and for jumping (off the lead line) so once or twice a week. Is the comfort/ safety level any greater?

We used the 'Breeze Up' body protectors for our daughter since she the age of 5. She is very happy with it, in fact she is just about out growing it so we are going to replace it with a Racesafe RS2010, but she says the Breeze Up is more comfortable!

If you do (or plan to so) any pony club activities just be aware that only Purple label BETA 2009 Level three or newer are now accepted. You can get BP's which do not meet that standard - just as you can get hats which don't meet current standards.

For me when I was getting protective gear for my daughter I always went with the highest safety standard I could that was also comfortable for her. There is little point in spending any money if the BP either doesn't do its job or she won't wear it because its uncomfortable! My daughter had Aerowear - but mainly because race safe was - and still is at 18 - too long in the body for her. She has the airmesh at the moment which is wonderfully breatheable and light - but possibly a little expensive for a still growing child.

From a young age our youngster had Harry Hall body protectors, and as they were each outgrown we replaced with their next size up. Now we have moved onto *Airowear which we much prefer. It also is a good fit (we are all very pleased with it), along with safety levels, comfort also means a lot as if the rider isn't comfortable it can become a struggle to actually get them to want to wear it. Any body protector is better than none, but our rule is 'no body protector, no ride'.

The Racesafe Provent 3 is the body protector I have. Am very pleased with that one too.

*Forgot to say, it is the Airowear 'Outlyne'.

Sadly we don’t have pony club here so she doesn’t get to experience any of their great events:(

That's a shame. It's worth getting the higher safety specification if she ever gets to compete at XC, some competitions insist on the Purple BETA 2009, but also if you wish to sell the jacket on when outgrown (which won't take long IME!) it'll retain more of its its value.
