Hi
After having a heavy fall at the weekend and sustaining serious bruising to my lower back/coccyx I was wondering about changing my body protector - it is over 10yrs old now.

I was also pondering the styles of the newer body protectors as my ancient one (which is about 20yrs old) was certainly much longer than todays and in fact had a strap that went through my legs to the front and I think goes much further down the back & over the coccyx area. The newer styles don't seem to have this any more.

So are there any styles that are longer through the back but which don't interfere with the saddle?

There is an inflatable one which expands in inflation to cover the coccyx - Hit air I think. But no "standard" BPs. Some are obviously lower behind than others so it might be worth shopping around a bit. But the lower they are the more they risk catching on the cantle. I don't think you'd get anything standard to cover the coccyx because that really is the bit you sit on!

Ah those lovely under-the-crotch straps, I do remember! That was a classy look wasn't it?!

The Kan (which I looooove) comes down over the coccyx and the internal protective stuff can be trimmed to exactly the right length to ensure you're getting it as long as possible but not touching the saddle :)

I had on the Hit Air as well but I don't think I got the protection low enough, probably because of the way I fell. I thought I'd fallen straight flat onto my back and that doesn't hurt at all but the bruising is extensive around the coccyx and my elbow, so maybe I didn't fall how I thought, shame there is no video.

Very classy, especially when it came adrift and it looked like you had a tail !!
Thanks, I'll look into the Kan. Have heard good things about it but not seen up close.
