Having witness my friend fall off this morning due to a pheasant flying up under the ponies belly I really feel I need a new body protector.

I current have a Rodney Powell and it is hot and stiff and so bloody uncomfortable I only wear it if doing something I perceive as dangerous such as backing a youngster.

I am sure there are better things on the market now but our local feed store is very limited.

I am size 8/10 long backed and flat chested so may get away with a childs size.

Recommendations greatly appreciated.

I was thinking about how if my friend had been wearing an air jacket when she fell off how the boom would have scared the poor pony even more ...... has this happened to anyone here ?

I have an Airowear Outlyne. I'm 5'8 and an 8 on top. I have a teenagers size (T2) slim extra long back. It's really comfortable, very flexible and nice to wear.

when my air jacket went off my boy didn't flinch. he had put his head down to eat as soon as I came out of the side door.

These USG ones are great, similar in price to the racesafe which I used for years. I find these even better especially the flexi motion as rather than squares it has the triangles which give it a bit more movement, also you can get the airbag as an attachment which fits over the top should you think you need one. I don't bother but I know my horses and how they are likely to react, I would probably use one when I start competing at higher levels, but then I don't bother wearing a back protector at all at home (bad practice I know)

I have an EXO and find it much cooler than the Aerowear one I had. EXO's are very much the marmite of body protectors though and of course I don't think you can buy them new anymore as WW sold the patent.

Good decision OP. I never hack without mine ( Aerowear Outlyne) I so nearly decided not to wear it one day last September as it was quite warm. So pleased I did decide to wear it as horse spooked and spun lost his footing on the Tarmac and we went down together. The only part of me not bruised grazed or sprained was my ribcage. I've never noticed mine getting too hot as it seems to settle once it's warmed up and softens.
