I was cursing mine as the only bit that hurt was the BP digging in to my lower back, but accorind to my physio, who I met yeterday, said that in reality it a) probably saved me from being paralysed, and b) if it hadn't been for the pain from that bruising, I wouldn't have had it checked out - the break itself didn't hurt.

The break was a compression fracture when I tried foolishly to land on my feet, and succeeded :(. As my back was already broken before I went flying across the surface, landing heavily along the length of my back, neck and head, withouth the BP it would not have had any protection. I would probably have been paralysed from around the waist areas (L2) down, which would have included everything from that point down.

As I said, food for thought. Each to their own and no doubt many will continue to ride without a BP, but I won't be joining them.

A Kanteq will be on order the month before I can get back on again.

I am now always wearing mine plus a Point2 over the top of my jacket out hunting. It is interesting how many people have started to wear their BP aswell- often with the comment that if the hunt sec. is wearing one then it must be ok. Whatever the reason, anything to make our sport safer has to be a good thing. The Kanteq look lovely but would look a bit silly on a bloke :p i did ask their designer if they could do one with a decent 6 pack built in rather than the girly chest:D

Oh I don't know, a bloke in a Kanteq could be, er, um, an interesting talking point to while away the the quieter moments...:D

I've always been involved in 'dangerous' sports and hobbies. I think I'm only still here because I take the best precautions I can

Lol the thought!!

At the risk of being slated, I do not wear one for hunting. I took it on my first outing, couldn't fit it on over or under jacket (yes I know, prep is key!) so said to horse "you'll just have to bloody look after me!" and he did :)

However subsequently the reason I have not worn one is that when hunting, in trappy country particularly, I just try and stay in balance and not get in horse's way, there's an awful lot of chucking myself on horse's neck through woods and stuff at speed and I just can't see my being able to do this so freely with my bp on. Also a hunt coat is a big thick piece of kit - how would I move at all with one of those on top?? So perhaps I'm being silly, and I love my kanteq, but I do perceive that I will do better staying as I am (off to find bp now so I can put it on to protect me from slating I will get!).

Oh and this really will get me slated but hey ho...one of the things I adore about hunting, is the getting me and horse and tack as clean and smart and correct as possible. I love that. And a bp...well...would kinda ruin the end effect I feel *hides*

I agree with you completely.

I feel so cumbersome with my BP on and have had far nastier falls when wearing it as i cannot move freely enough.

(i've joined you with mine on too as im on the sofa and dont need to move ;))
