Can anyone give me an idiot's guide to body protectors for children? I've got a 4 year old I need to kit out with one and I haven't got a clue where to start! The pony club rules only say that the decision on body protectors is up to the parents! Sounds like I probably want a Level 3 one though. I've googled, but not managed to find any reviews specifically relating to body protectors for children.

Any opinions on which make is best?

I have an airowear body protector which is still children and its great. Not the most comfortable or discreet but has saved me from many nasty accidents

I would go along to your local tack shop that sells BPs and ask to be fitted. They will make sure it's the right size and not too long that it scrapes the back of the saddle. As long as it fits properly and is an approved design I think of the ones to fit a 4 year old there isn't a lot to choose between them in terms of performance.

Had the same problem, when i was trying to find a back protector for my little boy, and i got one through the pony club, only been used twice as child had grown out of it, he has used it 3 times and now to small for him. So maybe it would be worth asking at your local branch of pony club, it might surprise you how much stuff others have and are willing to pass it on, instead of throwing it away

thanks tikka, good point. I'm not keen on shelling out the £60 odd that they cost in our local tack shop - they grow so fast!
