Have arranged to take thin, tall (6ft tall, but height all in her legs, weight about 7 1/2 st) daughter xc schooling of Friday
She tried her body protector on last night, and looks like a turtle in a shell 3 times too small for it with the shoulders of the honey monster:(

So by Fri she needs a new one. Have been looking at the he Racesafe, or the Kan. Something is telling me to go for the Kan, but she is not going to be using it a lot and it does seem like alot of money to spend, I am going round in circles here, help please!!!!

No experience of the Kan but i have the Racesafe and love it!

really flexible and lightweight, they can make them up to fit any size body (extra long/short etc) and you can get it made to measure almost with the laces on the side.

No advice sorry, but will be watching this thread as Im just deciding between the two also.

Im an adult new to riding and looking to take up XC training this summer. Nothing serious, just a session every few weeks. Im really liking the Kan but like you, thinking about the cost.

One thing about the Kan is that apparently, it does not deteriorate over 3 years which is what the normal BPs do so it may last longer and be more cost effective.

I suppose I would just have to try and wear it more!!!

I am looking at the Kan or the new Rodney Powell Pro. The latter is cheaper, but has similar qualities... may be worth looking at? I will probably end up with a Kan, but only cos I have stopped growing ;)

I thought I had heard this about the Kan as well, daughter is off to Uni in Sept, so I am not sure how much riding she will be doing, but if it doesn't deteriorate I think it could make it better value in the long term.

I havent ridden in either but at Bramham last year the lady who designed the Khan body protectors paid for me and some friends to go on those bungee trampoline things in them. She took some pictures. It was to prove that they are comfortable to wear. It was really comfortable, and if i needed a new body protector i would defiantely think about getting one. hope that helps. x

Thanks Charlotte I tried one on when they first came out, made me feel like I had boobs like Katie Price, but felt very comfortable, now wish I had bought one for myself then.

Love my racesafe, so comfy, and you can have the back length altered easily, my main problem is I'm small, size 6-8 but have a long back so I ended up with an added length childs and it's fab!

yep, the Kan doesn't deteriorate. she can borrow mine (size 12 but can be tightened to a 10ish, would that drown her?), it's hanging in the tackroom doing nothing at the moment, where are you xc schooling?! better to borrow and make sure she's happy in it before forking out, perhaps?
the foam is a lot more protective than that in any other bp on the market at the moment, it's a solid shell (moulded, so v v comfortable) which hardens against impact then relaxes again, you can whack it with a hammer which just bounces off...!

Personally would always go for a "rigid" BP than a very flexible one, even though the Racesafe is probably the most comfy BP I have tried on. I have a Rodney Powell and would definately consider a Kan when I go to replace it. I think the rigid BPs offer better spinal support in the event of an injury in that they should stabilise the spine due to their rigidness (though that's not to say you can't move in them, just that they are stiffer) so essentially they act more like a spinal board than something which moves more. Does that make any sense (brain not functioning terribly well due to lurgy atm!)

Thank you Kerilli, that's so kind of you to offer to lend yours to her, but yes I think it will be a little large for her. I wont embarrass her by posting measurements, but having done a little more research on sizing I now realize that we have a bigger problem than I thought, her waist is so small compared to bust nothing that I have found actual measured sizing's for are going to fit her, so I think I am going to order a couple of Kans from Rideaway in different sizes, express delivery and keep fingers firmly crossed that one fits.

We are going xc schooling at the surface eventing centre in Willoughby, as when we tried to book most xc schooling courses are closed around here.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

You should order it directly from Wendy at Kan, that way if it needs to be altered she can do it for you.

I am very petite and the 'off the peg' Kan did not fit so wendy altered one for me.

It fits like a glove, you forget you have it on and I feel so so safe in it. I would never go back to a 'regular bp' ever again.

Numbers for Wendy are
T: +44 28 9754 2313
M: +44 77 966 14754

Wow this is why I like this forum:)

Have spoken to Wendy, what a lovely lady daughter is being fitted for a Kan on Sat at Westen Park,

thanks to everyone for their input

kan kan kan kan kan kan kan every time! They sponsor me, and prior to that I had a very old Rodney Powell the Kan is mega for the following reasons...

smart foam abosrbs impact so you don't
lasts longer doesn't deteriorate after 3 years
shaped to support spine (great for me and my sway back!)
kan breeths with you, has an expanding design which moves in and out with your ribs so no shortness of breath (great for me again coz am a pathetic asthmatic)
so comfy you just forget you have it on, honestly!

If you look at my site there are some ridden and unmounted pics of me wearing mine, I am a total convert will NEVER buy a different BP again, next step for Kan is I think they should make one for the chaps as atm it's ladies only :)

Interesting thread. I have taken 2 years off as 1st my horse had a foal and then I had a baby. My Cobra has served me well but I fear its' protective qualities will have deteriorated.
I am also looking to buy a new BP and it interests me that the Kan doesn't deteriorate.

What is the RRP? Does anyone know if they will have a stall at Badminton where I can try one?

Another vote for the KAN, i had a Rodney Powell one and recently changed it for the KAN, and love it for all the reasons above!

Thank you MickeyMoo will see you in the morning:)

And thank you Chloe, interesting to know it suits asthmatic, Fairycakes (daughter) also suffers
