BODY PROTECTORS - THOUGHTS

I have a Champion Cobra. I used to be with the school of thought of "it makes me fall off more" etc etc, but actually, once it has moulded, I actually find it very very comfortable!! Use it only for XC, wouldnt even contemplate doing XC without it. Also hacked my boy in it the frt few times he ever went out!!

I have recently bought a cobra one , Had a rodney powell one and it was terrible very difficult to move in and very hot XC . This one is much better. Will not ride XC without one, Value my back and ribs too much

Most XC whether it be small HT or large event you have to wear one, only thought it was a medical armband that wasnt always compulsary

I will not get on a horse for whatever reason without my back protector on. I wear mine for hacking and even riding in my field. That is my choice!
I do feel that a lot of problems people have with them are because they do not have them fitted properly and do not allow them enough time to bed in and mould to your body shape. My RP one was stiff as wood when I got it and I felt like mitchellin woman in it but after a month it bedded in and I don't notice it at all. They are no gaurantee but just provide a bit of cushioning against the worst impact and breaks really.
If nothing else in the winter they act as fantastic wind breaks against those biting winds!!!

I wear a BP for xc, some jumping and for riding my baby. Took me ages to get one that fitted and i managed to baffle two shops with my size (ended up with a very good shop specially ordering me an extra long, childs one. Luckily i'm flat chested!) I'm glad i perserved though because the one i ended up with after wearing it for a few weeks moulded beautifully and i can't say i notice when i'm wearing it.

i've had a few bad falls without one and i'm sure it would have helped. Not only for the impact of the fall but other injuries for instance i fell once and i ended up with gravel rash right down one side of my body (this was through a thin top and jods that had to be binned!), it was extremly painful.

Also a friend of mine fell off and got trampled by his horse (who had spurs in), BP was badly damaged and i can only imagine what would would have been the result if it hadn't been worn.

I work at a raing yard and find it very normal now and ive got a rodney powell! find it very comfy and very strange not having it on at home!! Abd do find it reasuring when riding the 3 year olds round the roads and on the gallops!!

Also always hae one on for XC ad schooling but not for anything else!
