I have recently bought a racesafe rs2000 having had a rodney powell before.

I used to just wear the powell for Xc comps i.e when i HAD to... now i have the rs2000 its so comfy i wear it for hacking out etc

When do you wear a BP or dont you ever?

I put never because your poll doesnt give an option for 'only when competition rules dictate'. Given a choice I would never wear them as I feel far more likely to come off while wearing one than if I'm not wearing one.

Only for x-country not showjumping (although actually have fallen off more showjumping that x-country probably!)

body protectors i think do more harm then good to truthful
ive never liked them as when you come off you cant roll into a ball to protect

Usually wear mine for jumping (after landing on a jump wing last year and getting an ugly scar

) and hacking, or if riding bareback, or if I'm feeling like I might fall off!! mine is only a cheap Harry Hall one, but I love it, it fits me so well and is so comfy.

I always wear one on my horse partly to give me more support 'up top'

and also my horse doesn't miss a chance to dump me. When I'm at the RS I only wear one for jumping in the paddock or XC.

Wear mine for jumping and hacking (after being dumped on the road some years ago). My husband bought it for me some years ago and made me promise to wear it. God forbid I end up in hospital after an accident without my BP, he'd go bonkers!!!

i have to say i did agree but dont now. i felt less safe with my rodney powell on it was so stiff and i couldnt ride properly or thats how i felt anyway, but now with my racesafe i dont even know its there. maybe its just finding the right one for your fit/body shape plus my one now is more flexi so makes less difference to how i ride.

Just for XC however I should wear it more, because after I've been riding in it for a few minutes I don't even notice I've got it on to be honest. Don't think there good for your position if your schooling or doing dressage though.

Only ever wear one when it states in the rules that I have to, so xc/teamchasing. Stubborn and possibly stupid but I hate wearing one, would never consider a days hunting in one and then generally push my boobs into my ribcage, which is never enjoyable.

Since Ronnie's gone a bit silly hacking, I wear one for hacking, plus jumping outdoors. I should probably wear one for jumping indoors too, to be fair.

I'm hoping to get a RS2000 one when my current Charles Owen one wears out (do they ever wear out

Jockey's do!

In what other way do you think they do more harm than good?

My horse fell on me and if I'd had a body protector on I wouldn't have crushed all my ribs on one side and had a pneumothorax, or possibly my injuries wouldn't have been so bad.

Having said that I hate wearing one so rarely do. But perhaps I should.

i give a never...i have a 34 g bust....and a short back so find them extermly uncomfortable and cant sit properly in the saddle....safer for me to ride without!!

I do for hunting (not always though) and for xc when rules state at a venue.

They can do much more harm than good if fitted wrongly though!! Mine restricts at first and sometimes when I fold, the end bashes the pommel and annoys me

Hmm well if you've ever been to the races you'll see fallen jockeys do a damn good impression of rolling into a ball whilst wearing a body protector...

I hate mine and never wear it, it pushes me out of the saddle and I feel like the honey monster in it!

I do like my bodygaurd jacket from Mountain Horse for winter hacking and wish I could find something similar for summer.

my friend broke her back with wearing one
and the doctors said that if she wasnt wearing one she may of not got the injurys she did
even then people can get injurys from horse riding but i think its natural for us to curl up
but when wearing one this stops or reduces our moment
iknow people have to wear these in different types of equestrian sport inc racing
shame for said
that mick that got injuryed in the grand national that was wearing one.

I wear mine for hack and jumping, as I've had nasty accidents whilst doing both, and usually wear it each time I ride (for the majority of the time). Mine is comfy so I don't mind wearing it

It's a racesafe one.

HATE HATE HATE HATE THEM!!!!!!!! After being forced to wear one for a year, I now no longer wear them, may do if I went xc, or if I was riding a nutter and I was nervous. But my RI said that when they made all little kids wear them for the first time doing SJ, 2 fell off, both broke there arms just below the shoulder, very unusual break, and think it's possible that the BP stopped the tremors going through there body if you know what I mean?

When the horses were younger I wore one all the time, but now they are older - and theoretically more sensible- only when jumping. Mines a raceafe too, really comfy.
