hey as in my thread i was advised to buy one

what make model do people recomend (if you havent guessed am male lol)

also what sorta money should be paid i willnt have a budget for somthing that is protection as normally cheap is a waste so ill pay for quailty but know sumtimes you pay for a name

back protector are they part of body or is it a seprate item all togetheir

Back protector and body are the same thing just the different names people use. Like I said previously the Racesafe ones are good around the £100 mark and are used by the jockeys as light weight but still offer same amount of protection.

Aerowear do a nice one aswell but I feel restricted in them, they aren't bad ones though and do a nice male one:

I have a racesafe, got it from here http://www.rideaway.co.uk/HOWS-RACE-SAFE-BODYPROTECTOR-RS10/default.aspx , priced now at £150 but are really super body protectors, I have had mine for a few years now and would definitely buy another. The company themselves are really helpful and will make custom sizes if you are an unusual shape.

These and the Kanteq seem to be the most highly thought of although the Kans are only for women I'm afraid (and not skinny girls either, I didn't like the one I tried on at all).

Yes, you don't get a separate back protector, but can get additional shoulder protectors if yo want.

wouldnt shoulder protectors restrict movement furtheir thanjust a standerd body protector ?

is their a certain disaplines you should wear the shoulder protectors or is it more of a confidance thing that you feel safer

All garments approved to current BETA (British Equestrian Traders Association) standards carry the relevant label displaying either BETA 2000 or BETA 2009
Level 1 Black Label
Level 2 Brown Label
Level 3 Purple Label
Note that no 'air vests' or 'inflatable' body protectors conform to the BETA standard.
Jockey back protectors are not suitable for other riding activities as they offer a lower level of protection.

Yes they do restrict movement, I personally do not have them. I think the only reason I would maybe consider it if I had an old shoulder or collarbone injury that needed 'protecting'.

They are not compulsory and most people don't seem to have them.

ETA I should have quoted OP - this is in reference to the question about shoulder protectors, not bps in general!

They don't restrict your movement at all I forget I have mine on when I am riding. Usually you will only see shoulder pads on the cross country course, I haven't yet seen people wear them in the showjumping arena. However I can't see any reason why you couldn't wear them if you wanted to providing they were of the same colour of your jacket.

I have a Rodney Powell one with shoulder protectors in my cross country colours. I think we paid around £180 for it. Racesafe are extremely good also, both worth having a look at.

Happy buying. :)

My Racesafe is comfy, I tend to forget it once riding, I have shoulder pads but not Racesafe ones, not sure what make they are, I came off last show, landed on my side with rather a thump. no winding no bruising no problem :)

does horse and hound not have a product reveiw section or have i missed it

I've got a Racesafe RS2000, and very comfy it is too.

I would recommend only buying from a tack shop where you can be measured and the BP properly fitted.
