I bought my (V.tall) 2 yr old a body protector which fits her very nicely.
My (short) 6 yr old now needs one too. However, his sister's actually fits him. When I say fit, it covers his spine and he can sit in it comfortably, but the 'red' on the velcro isnt quite covered (if you know what I mean! you can 'just' see it).
I'm thinking is it worth me forking out another 70 quid on one for him when he could wear his sisters? Or am I just being stingy??

If you can only just see it then it should be ok for now, after all how many raging mad ponies does he ride? Seriously though I would try to get maximum wear out of it. After all they grow so flippin quickly you might as well make the most of it.

that was my thinking, I could see myself spending most of OH's salary on riding wear for these two!

hmm I'm not sure , it would probably be ok, but how long would it stay ok? They mold to the body shape with time I guess, but I've always been told you should get one fitted because in the case of a fall it really protects your back, I wouldn't be without mine. When I fell on concrete last year it was a life saver. If he's gonaa grow anyway he would probably need new one? I take the money point though.
