I havent tried the boett but had a snuggy and it only lasted my horse a week before it was found in a heap on the floor in shreds he material seemed to catch easily so was a waste of money now hes in the shires sweet itch rug and it the best and cheapest one hes had and its showerproof
I tried snuggy hoods one, but material too stretchy, didn't fit and was always twisting and turning, but size smaller was too small. also got quite hot in it.
boett haven't tried due to cost
personally I like the Rambo sweet itch hoody, as nice and light and seems to stop the itching! I got mine in a sale so quite cheap, lasted last summer, with regular use, about to go back on again
My pony's Snuggy is brilliant and has never budged an inch. it does fit him exactly perfectly though. I do think that the fit has a lot of bearing on the success of them and Snuggy Hoods can make them to measure if needed.
Its been in daily use for over two months and was used on and off over the winter as an under rug too and doesnt have a snag on it and it washes up as new still
I have the Masta set as a fallback and thats pretty good too. I also have the Rambo hoodie and an Amigo Bug Rug for the days when the risk is lower and those are ok too
No contest for me: Boett all the way. Have used them for ages. Every rug I have had from them has lasted for at least three years, several much longer. Easy to follow measuring instructions. Customer service is excellent too.
The only Snuggy I tried was a disaster and it took ages to get a refund.
Have never tried a Boett but did buy a Pagony - which is supposed to be as good as a Boett only cheaper. Dont bother! A total waste of money, badly made - the seams were only single threaded so I had to get my little sewing machine out to sort it. I should have sent it back really.
Have got a snuggy hoods sweet itch head-cover thing for my boy; it cost extra to have the fly-fringe on it, but frankly not worth doing as it doesn't do much. Have also got their hoody thing for my mare for winter turnout to keep her clean. Their stuff DOES stay where its supposed to, unlike other lycra hoodies which are frankly a danger to the horse as they come down over their eyes etc. But as someone else has said, they do seem very hot. I don't have their sweet itch thingey in its entirety tho' so can't really comment. But whilst the quality is good, they do seem a bit pricey TBH.
But if you've got a Sweet Itch; best thing is a Rambo sweet-itch Hoody - not cheap admittedly, but can't be bettered; closely followed by the Premier Equine one which is excellent quality and a reasonable price. I somehow managed to purchase a Pessoa Sweet itch hoody rug a few years ago on-line; it was fantastic, lasted my boy all through equine college and seemed to go on forever. Now sadly just a memory in the rag-bin!! But if I could find another one, I'd snap it up. But I've not seen another for sale in spite of looking hard, they are like hens teeth.
Forget the cheap and cheerfuls; they're just not as only last a short while - my boy trashed a Mark Todd within mere hours of putting it on. Ditto the Amigo Mio - fine for putting on to stand in the stable with (mine's always covered up even if inside) - but won't last five minutes for turnout.
boett, though there's a woman on ebay (cornerstonebrowbands) that makes rugs to order and they are pretty good value and similar style to boett. I currently have a snuggy hoods rug and wish I had bought another boett instead. The material gets very heavy when wet and then it stretches and pulls back along the body. The hood has been a nightmare for going in his eyes and I've had to take the scissors to it to make the eye holes bigger.
Boett every time!! They are so durable, do their job very well and the company are so helpful as well - great customer service. I had a Boett for my gelding and was always so impressed with it. The material seemed thick but he never got too hot in it. And the best bit was - it actually worked! When he wore it you would never guess he had sweetitch. Before we had the Boett he'd always worn other brands of sweetitch rugs but had always scrubbed his mane/tail and skin red raw. The boett gave him the most beautiful glossy coat and long mane and tail, I can't recommend them enough.
Not tried a boett but tried a snuggy sweet itch on mine last year and it was a disaster. They assured me they had had no reports of horses getting too hot in them etc but my lad got very hot, he is quite chunky though. One of the plastic clips broke within a couple of days but they said it was none essential and then within a week it had ripped down the front too. To be fair to snuggy they didn't quibble and gave me a full refund thank goodness. I bought a Mark Todd in the end as my boy only had mild itching comp compared to some.
