I think I am going to have to buy my youngster a boett, she doesnt have sweetitch but flies just seem drawn to her and she gets bitten to pieces. I have tried various fly rugs and hoods but they either rub or dont cover enough of her.

Do you think a boett would be the way forwards? Its an awful lot of money if it isnt going to work, the main place they bite her is on her head and neck so figure I will need one with a hood..

How do the sizes work? She is 14.2 but very fine and quite narrow. Most rugs are too big on her shoulders but she takes a 5ft6 length

Thanks

i bought a pagony from divorza,it was £70 or £80 and they were very helpful on the phone with the sizing.

Hattie had sweetitchy tendences and is majorly bothered by flies so we bought a boett a couple of years ago, used it with success but we did have to make fake fur sleeves for the back leg straps as they rubbed and we had to sew a shiny material into bits round her bottom as it rubbed there too. was a bit of a nightmare to get on as you have to put the whole rug over their head but it did do the job and we didnt use it with fly spray.

We have found however that the Rambo sweetitch fly rug works even better *touch wood* hattie hasnt rubbed at all this year and she wears it all the time apart from when she's being ridden

It doesnt rub at all and we dont use any fly spray

I'd guess you would need a size 4 boett.

I have just sold one on ebay (annoyingly only got £80 for it as was overly honest!) and it was just slightly too tight on my 14.3, but he is very long and takes a 5'9 - 6' rug. So if yours is slight and takes a 5'6 it would have fitted quite well.

If you give them a call they will adivse on the size. The attached link might help.

I wouldn't be without mine. My horse actually drops his head for me to put in on - it takes a second to put over his head. He doesn't even need his headcollar, just stands as good as gold. Mine does not rub him at all.

My mare had a boett, it is the most ridiculous looking thing out and is difficult to get on but it does seem to do the job, so as they say 'style isnt everything'.

They are really really helpful on the phone and the website has a good guide for measuring. I'm pretty sure Darcy had a size 4 when I bought his. He was brilliant having his put on, he used to thrust his head through it and stand patiently whilst I righted it and did it up. Brilliant rugs and the ONLY thing that worked when his SI was bad

I used to have to ride in it as well

Lots on our yards have the Rambo SI Hoody and they really rate them but it's not on horses with SI.

Can't resist posting this...

I would say a size 3 or 4, but they will help you. I have a size 4 (2nd hand bargain) on a sturdy little 13.1, she takes 5'6 to 5'9 rugs. Last year I managed to get a secondhand size 3, it was OK, but a bit on the tight side, the 4 is definitely better for her.
