I'm pretty sure my welsh cob mare has one. Left hock, a softish swelling just below the level of the hock in the middle of the joint. No lameness, but she is reluctant to canter right.

She has a big action behind and she's got PSD in both hinds, so probably a prime candidate. She's 14 years old, in light work (ridden 5/6 times a week: 4 x hacks for an hour+ , 3 x 30/40min school). I gauge her work carefully due to the PSD (which is checked annually and apart from an odd walk gait, is not at all evident). She's definitely not hammered - no jumping, very careful canter work, a lot of trot, but we're on very flat ground here and she's always happy going forward (apart from in canter).

Does any one have experience of bog spavin, treatments, prognosis etc?

Genie has had bog spavin in both hocks since I bought her as a 4 year old, vet has a quick glance every year and is always pleased with them. I keep her moving as much as possible - in the daytime in summer when she's in off the grass for 12 hours odd she has the yard as well to walk on. She'll happily jump a 3ft+ course but we don't as I'd rather not! I don't work her on hard ground and only walk on the roads, but I do that with all my horses anyway. G is now 10, and absolutely fine, never had a problem with her hocks (touching LOTS of wood here, don't want to tempt fate!!).
